The Technical Manager and AI Deputy is a senior technology leadership role accountable for engineering excellence, technical governance, and the delivery of scalable, secure, and AI-enabled solutions across MetLife Colombia. Guided by our purpose – always with you building a more confident future – and our New Frontier strategy focused on stronger growth, attractive returns and all-weather performance, this role offers an exciting opportunity to lead software development teams while acting as a technical steward. The position ensures alignment between business strategy, architecture, platforms, and emerging AI capabilities in a regulated enterprise environment.

Key Accountabilities

Engineering & Technical Management

- Lead and plan software development capabilities aligned with business objectives and enterprise architecture.

- Establish and govern engineering standards, architectural guardrails, and SSDLC / DevSecOps practices.

- Act as the technical escalation point for complex design decisions, platform dependencies, and technical risk.

- Ensure system resilience, performance, security, and long-term maintainability.

 

AI & Advanced Technology Enablement

- Lead the technical execution of AI- and automation-based programs, including generative AI and decision intelligence use cases.

- Ensure AI solutions comply with security, data privacy, model governance, and Responsible AI principles.

- Partner with business, data, risk, and security teams to translate business needs into scalable AI-enabled capabilities.

- Drive adoption of AI platforms, and model lifecycle management.

 

Platform & Legacy Modernization

- Lead technical execution of core modernization, API enablement, tech modernization and tech renewal.

- Drive legacy system modernization and decommissioning to reduce technical debt and operational risk.

- Ensure development teams are organized around product and platform value streams aligned with SAFe.

 

4. Talent, Capability & Culture

- Build and sustain communities of practice in architecture, AI, cloud, and engineering excellence.

- Mentor senior engineers and architects as technical leaders.

- Define and evolve technical capability roadmaps (AI literacy, cloud-native engineering, secure coding).

- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and responsible innovation.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development and technical leadership roles.
  • Proven experience leading multi-team, multi-platform engineering environments.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, APIs, microservices, and integration patterns.
  • Solid knowledge AI delivery lifecycles
  • Experience operating in regulated or high-compliance environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage senior business, risk, and technology stakeholders.
  • Professional proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in insurance or financial services environments.
  • Exposure to Responsible AI, data ethics, and model risk management.
  • Postgraduate studies or certifications in Architecture, AI, Cloud, or Agile frameworks.
  • SAFe experience in System Architect, Solution Architect, or senior engineering leadership roles.
