The Opportunity

The Senior Analyst, Operational Risk plays a key role within MetLife Australia’s Risk & Compliance function and broader Global Risk Management (GRM) team. Guided by our purpose — always with you, building a more confident future — and our New Frontier strategy, this role provides expert risk advisory, challenge and oversight to ensure business decisions and activities are aligned to MetLife’s risk appetite and regulatory obligations.

Working as a trusted partner under the three lines of defence model, you will lead the implementation and embedding of the Operational Risk Management Framework, supporting business units to proactively identify, assess and manage non‑financial risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide risk advisory and challenge to business units, supporting identification, assessment and management of operational and non‑financial risks in line with MetLife frameworks and policies.
  • Implement and embed the Operational Risk Management Framework, including risk assessments, control monitoring, risk event management and oversight activities.
  • Support regulatory compliance and reporting, including CPS220 and CPS230 obligations, Board and Risk Management Committee reporting, and escalation of material risk events.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to strengthen risk awareness, deliver training and ensure effective integration of risk management practices into day‑to‑day operations.
  • Contribute to business continuity, risk systems and continuous improvement, including process mapping, OpenPages (or equivalent) system support and identification of emerging risks and trends.

Required Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in financial services, risk management or professional services environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational risk management, risk consulting or non‑financial risk frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, particularly APRA CPS220 and CPS230 (highly desirable).
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills, with the ability to interpret, assess and clearly communicate risk insights.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and partner across all levels of the organisation.
  • Comfort using AI‑enabled and digital productivity tools (e.g. Microsoft 365 Copilot or similar) to support efficient work outcomes, with sound judgement and adherence to organisational policies, governance and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using risk management systems (e.g. OpenPages or similar governance, risk and compliance platforms).
  • Proficiency in data analytics and reporting tools (e.g. Excel, Power BI, Python or SQL).
  • Understanding of AI, automation or data‑driven risk insights within a risk management context.
  • Experience supporting Board or executive‑level reporting and cross‑functional risk initiatives.
