The Team You Will Join
You will join MetLife Australia's Data and Analytics team that is responsible for management of existing and delivery of new data management and information lifecycle management, reporting and analytics solutions for the business and partners.
 
The Opportunity
The Data and Analytics (D&A) team is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Analyst to join our reporting team in a critical role supporting both regulatory and industry reporting obligations. Operating within a regulated Australian financial institution, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of recurring (run) reports and for leading the design and development (build) of new reports and insights for key stakeholders, including APRA, superannuation funds, and corporate partners.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation in Tableau, a solid understanding of star schema data models, and a proactive, analytical mindset. Experience in the Life Insurance industry managing regulatory and industry reporting will be highly regarded.
 
How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
RUN RESPONSIBILITIES (RECURRING REPORTING)
  • Own and execute recurring regulatory and industry reports, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and Timeliness.
  • Coordinate submission of reports to regulatory bodies such as APRA, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and monitor report delivery processes and schedules to ensure service-level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Investigate anomalies in data outputs and liaise with data engineering or business teams to resolve issues.
  • Support audits, reviews, and requests for information from internal and external stakeholders.
BUILD RESPONSIBILITIES (DEVELOPMENT & ENHANCEMENT)

BUSINESS NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Understand, and where required, articulate the business situation and problem statement (independently and/or in collaboration with the business and support of your manager).
  • Determine business needs and drivers through stakeholder consultation and collaboration;
  • Understand stated and solicit unstated customer needs enabling the articulation of functional and non-functional business requirements (or user-stories, as applicable).
  • Ability to show traceability of business objectives to business requirements.
  • Ability to document current and future state processes.
  • Prior experience in dealing with a complex technology environment and many intricate data flows (legacy and new systems of record and insight).


STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders that you will be supporting to establish open communication and trust resulting in a strong relationship.
  • Understand, promote date and analytics services and manage stakeholder expectations within your area of the MetLife business, Be involved in the management and operation of the business units you support, include involvement in planning, work prioritisation, performance management, and optimisation initiatives.


OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE & DELIVERY

  • Prioritisation and operating rhythm - manage a regular operating rhythm with your key stakeholders so that prioritisation of requested deliverables is agreed, minimum monthly, to ensure that regular reports, continuous improvement and defined initiatives/projects are delivered to the agreed scope in a timely manner, with accurate information, with the available resources.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of information products (such as reports and insights) by leveraging existing and introducing now, as required, quality assurance checks and controls.
  • Work closely with the business SMEs to ensure that analysis, information, commentary, and insights are delivered to the business with impact and value.
  • Work with your manager to provide clarity of business priorities, triage new requests, and resource planning to ensure stakeholders understand relative priorities and expected delivery timelines,
  • Continuously improve the business intelligence experience for stakeholders by working with embedded BI teams, data service providers, und IT as required to create a joined-up experience,
  • Enable MetLife growth initiatives by supporting new/existing business tender proposals from a business intelligence perspective,
  • Collaborate with the D&A Data Exchange delivery team, Technology, Digital Platform Support Team (DPST), Information Technology Risk and Security (ITRS) and Platform Delivery Team (PDT) to deliver data solutions through the new (AXE/DAX) in accordance with the pending way of working / Agile Delivery Model.

  • External relationships - APRA, Superannuation Funds, Corporate Clients, Industry Associations, CALI, NMG.
  • Internal relationships - Product & Pricing teams, Data Stewards, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Product, Data & Analytics teams.


RISKS

  • Managing risks relating to the services you and your team provide through the development and ongoing management of standard operating procedures (SOP) and D&A’s Playbook for key information products.
  • Actively support management of risk, specifically data risk, by following MetLife’s risk management framework.


What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Commerce Business, Statistics, or a related discipline.


EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a financial services, insurance, or superannuation organisation, with strong exposure to regulatory or industry reporting.
  • Proficiency in Tableau and/or Microsoft Power BI for report and dashboard development.
  • Strong working knowledge of star schemas and enterprise data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, SQL-based environments).
  • High attention to detail and analytical rigor in working with complex data sets.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with APRA reporting standards and industry codes (e.g., Life Insurance Code of Practice) is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in life insurance reporting or analytics is advantageous


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong understanding of Business Intelligence tools.
  • Understanding of waterfall and agile delivery methodologies.
  • Life Insurance or Banking experience including knowledge of financial / actuarial valuation methods and processes (preferred).

SKILLS:

  • Advanced knowledge and use of Tableau and / or Microsoft Power BI
  • Advanced knowledge and use of Alteryx to design, develop, and maintain Alteryx workflows.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL to support efficient coding standards.
  • Foundational understanding of data modelling, particularly dimensional modelling (Kimball) enabling you to contribute to D&A discussions related to the design and building of star schemas to support individual business unit’s needs.
  • Good relationship development, management and influencing skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Good project management skills including the ability to solicit functional and non-functional requirements (waterfall) / develop user-stories (agile), define the definitions of ready and done and support your team with applicable ceremonies (such as stand-ups, retros).
