The Opportunity 

As a MetLife Cybersecurity intern, you’ll work alongside experienced security engineers, contribute to real projects, and share your outcomes and learning experiences with peers and leaders at the end of the program. Our program is designed for students who are curious, adaptable, and eager to learn new technologies in a collaborative, innovative environment. Our interns work on meaningful projects impacting millions of customers, receive mentorship from highly skilled security experts and industry leaders, and enjoy a supportive culture that fosters relationships to expand your network. Intern projects may include:

 

  • Cloud Security: Implementing and validating security controls for cloud-native environments.
  • Identity & Access Management: Supporting authentication technologies (SSO/MFA), JIT elevation, and automation.
  • Vulnerability Management: Analyzing vulnerability data, assisting with remediation strategies, and compliance checks.
  • Threat Intelligence & Awareness: Designing phishing/smishing campaigns and preparing security awareness materials.
  • Governance, Risk & Compliance: Supporting teams focused on establishing and maintaining a framework to ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • AI Security: Researching risks related to GenAI platforms and supporting security reviews for AI models.
  • Automation Detection Development: Design and develop automated playbooks to assist with incident response investigations. 

 

How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)

  • Learn & Grow: Participate in data analysis for vulnerability management and remediation efforts. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, architecture, operations) to resolve security issues.
  • Contribute: Support monitoring and alert management for security tools and platforms. Help develop and maintain security documentation and technical reports. 
  • Explore: Conduct research on emerging threats and technologies to inform security strategies. Engage in testing and validation of security controls and automation scripts. 
  • Present: Share your project outcomes and learning experiences with peers and leaders at the end of the program.

 

What You Will Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)

  • Must have an expected graduation date no later than June 2028.
  • Actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity concepts through coursework or hands-on experience (risk, vulnerabilities, controls).
  • Coursework or experience with at least one scripting language.
  • Desire for continuous learning in cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
  • Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows/Linux).
  • Demonstrates strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills with a high level of curiosity.

 

It Would Be Helpful to Have (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience with Python, PowerShell, or SQL.
  • Exposure to cloud environments (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
  • Experience leveraging AI/ML tools.
  • Knowledge of Azure DevOpS.

 

Application Process & Program Information

  • Applications for this role will close December 15, 2025.
  • Qualified candidates will be invited to interview on a rolling basis – no interview activity will take place between December 22nd, 2025 and January 2nd, 2026.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require MetLife sponsorship or support for a work permit or visa in any capacity now or in the future.
  • Postgraduate students pursuing a master’s degree (or higher) are not eligible.
  • The internship program follows a hybrid work model – candidates are expected to work in office at least three days per week.
  • Interns will start in person on June 1st, 2026 and will work approximately 40 hours /week over the course of ten weeks.
  • The primary location will be in Cary, NC with a limited number of roles available in other offices listed in the job description. 
  • MetLife does not provide housing or a relocation stipend for this role.

The expected salary range for this position is $28-$30/Hour.
