Role Value Proposition

Join MetLife’s Retirement and Income Solutions (RIS) business and lead our Risk Solutions Contracts team. In this key role, you will set the direction and vision for the team and oversee all elements of contract and form development, including obtaining regulatory approval as necessary.

You will use your deep expertise to provide technical advice to the business on product development and inforce contracts, enabling the business you serve to succeed. You’ll play a key role in process optimization by driving the integration of AI and other technology solutions into our BAU processes. Additionally, you will serve as the key point of contact with Risk Solutions business leadership, key stakeholders and state insurance regulators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and set the strategic direction of the Risk Solutions Contracts team (4 direct reports), which is responsible for ensuring Risk Solutions contracts accurately capture MetLife’s promises to its customers, reflect business and operational capabilities and intentions, and comply with relevant regulatory requirements, enabling MetLife’s purpose, “Always With You, Building a More Confident Future”.  
  • Oversee the drafting, negotiating, obtaining regulatory approval for policies for the Specialized Benefit Resources and Post Retirement Benefits, and reinsurance agreements for the UK Reinsurance businesses (including contracts, amendments, endorsements and separate account documentation) in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Provide (and oversee provision of) technical expertise and advice to the Risk Solutions business on research and queries, including product development and to inforce contracts and related filings.
  • Champion a continuous improvement culture through identification and execution of process enhancements, including exploration and integration of AI and other digital solutions to drive automation and efficiency.
  • Drive projects, enhancements and configurations of RIS’ contracts lifecycle management platform.
  • Provide technical guidance and analysis of critical new product ventures and due diligence, communicating implications to stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Risk Solutions business leadership and key stakeholders such as the sales, product, legal, pricing and implementation teams.
  • Maintain strong relationship with state insurance regulator personnel to secure timely approvals, address product and compliance needs.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills

Required:

  • 10+ years of contracts or relevant financial services experience.
  • Motivational leadership with the ability to unite a team under common objectives and execute with sense of urgency. 
  • Ability to organize and delegate work across the team based on skills, capability and capacity and drive / oversee execution. Prioritize tasks and resources as required.
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking, ability to foresee micro and macro impacts of both an issue and potential solutions, weigh risks and benefits and act decisively.
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills; ability to communicate complex concepts with brevity and poise / aplomb.
  • Strong project management skills with an Interest in and familiarity with process improvement, digital workflow management and AI solutions. 
  • Demonstrated history of exercising sound judgement.
  • Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Word SharePoint and Teams proficiency

Preferred: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the group/institutional life, COLI, BOLI and funding market and familiarity with these contracts and other Risk Solutions products.
  • Finance degree, MBA or JD

The expected salary range for this position is $126,300 - $168,300. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
