The Opportunity

The Associate Director role is part of the MetLife Insurance Investments (MII) team and is responsible for in-force portfolio management and developing investment strategy to MetLife line of business partners.  The Associate Director will focus primarily on Insurance entities backing Life, Annuity, Long-Term Care (LTC) and Surplus for both in-force portfolio management, ALM investment strategy and value maximization strategies including the use of reinsurance.  


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight of our Investment portfolios, mostly domiciled in United States (US)
  • Partner with counterparts in the business, Reinsurance and Global Risk Management to develop optimal asset allocation and investment strategy
  • Partner with MetLife Investment Management (MIM) to identify attractive investment opportunities in support of pricing / investment strategy
  • Present investment strategy, sensitivities, and scenario analysis to MII partners and management, including Global Risk Management, Finance, and line of business representatives
  • Monitor and thoroughly understand income and margin projections, margin exposures, profitability trends, and propose mitigating solutions
  • Monitor and oversee investment performance and key risk / return metrics on an actual vs. expected basis
  • Contribute to the oversight and management of in-force investment portfolios
  • Support the MII Investment and business teams on strategic projects aimed at increasing portfolio profitability and/or mitigating portfolio risks
  • Using quantitative tools such as Blackrock Aladdin and Bloomberg, evaluate cash flow, key rate duration, and ALM profiles of investment portfolios
  • Identify opportunities to manage risk and increase return, reduce derivatives portfolio complexity, and manage portfolio exposures 
  • As needed, propose new duration targets / duration frameworks for investment portfolios based on input from actuarial and other partners
  • Based on quantitative analysis, propose and oversee progress of any strategic shifts in asset allocation
  • Participate in Annual Plan process, including providing guidance on potential attractive asset needs in support of new business pricing 
  • Present and obtain approval through ALM governance process (ALM Working Groups, ALM Committees, etc.) of shifts in new business investment / pricing strategy
  • Lead development of and/or present investment-related presentation materials to business partners
  • Partner with corporate partners on strategic initiatives including the use of third party reinsurance transactions

Required Qualifications
  • Strong quantitative skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience using BlackRock/ Aladdin and Bloomberg systems
  • Investment and Asset-liability management experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build partnerships and work in a team environment
  • Excellent communication and prioritization skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, less structured environment
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 

Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or CFA preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Math, or related field
  • 10 years of work experience at an insurance company or in financial services industry

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.

 

The expected salary range for this position is $134,600 - $179,500. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
