Role: AVP, Executive Development and Talent Planning

Location: New York, NY

Setting: Hybrid

Reports to: VP, Global Talent and Organization Development 

Travel: 10% 

 

The Role:

As a member of MetLife’s Global Talent & Organization Development Center of Expertise (CoE), this role is responsible for delivering MetLife’s vision for executive development and talent planning across the enterprise. The incumbent will provide thought leadership, consultation, and strategic guidance to HR and business leaders and deliver future-focused solutions related to talent assessment and reviews, accelerated development, succession planning, and organizational development. As MetLife activates its new business strategy in 2025, this position will have a unique opportunity to drive the integration of talent programs and strengthen their impact while embedding MetLife’s newly established values and behaviors across the organization. The incumbent will also focus on strengthening MetLife’s coaching capabilities as a key enabler of the business strategy.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the implementation of executive assessment and development initiatives, including the expansion of MetLife’s award-winning programs. 
  • Design and oversee delivery of new development programs that accelerate leader readiness to assume key roles, partnering closely with MetLife’s Learning & Development CoE.
  • Evolve MetLife’s approach to succession planning with refreshed tools, resources and guidance for HR and business leaders.
  • Prepare data-based insights and proposals to evaluate program impact and inform strategic talent decisions, partnering closely with MetLife People Planning & Insights team.
  • Oversee the expansion of enterprise coaching initiatives, including the democratization of internal coaching services, and building coaching capability at scale.
  • Strengthen HR Business Partner (HRBP) capabilities on a wide range of talent management topics to support their role as strategic talent advisors..
  • Partner with the HR leadership team to prepare materials for C-suite and Board of Directors meetings. 
  • Provide ad hoc coaching, feedback, development, facilitation and consulting support to senior business leaders and teams. 
  • Lead, develop and coach direct reports to enable them to grow, deliver results and make a positive impact.  

Key Relationships:

  • Primary stakeholders include: Global Talent CoE, HRBP community, HR Leadership team, HR Operations CoE, Learning & Development CoE, People Planning & Insights CoE, and senior business leaders 
  • Direct Reports: 2-3

 

What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications):

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Proven track record of creating compelling deliverables (e.g., tools, resources, playbooks, presentations, research articles, etc) grounded in talent management expertise; ability to serve as an enterprise thought leader in executive development and talent planning. 
  • Consulting Skills: Act as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders, bringing deep knowledge and providing guidance / solutions on a broad range of talent management topics.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to build future-focused talent management strategies that combine practicality, creativity and rigor to meet business priorities; integrate external perspectives, research and global mindset to deliver differentiated solutions.
  • Collaboration and Influence: Lead with executive credibility in a complex, global, and highly matrixed environment to secure alignment and advance new initiatives with senior stakeholders.
  • Models our ValuesCreates a culture that promotes the company’s values and standards through role modeling, accountability and ownership of decisions.
  • Storytelling with Data: Strong proficiency in applied research methods, psychometrics and talent analytics; creativity in preparing business-relevant insights that support decision making.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to translate business needs into practical, fit-for-purpose talent management solutions.
  • Communications: Outstanding oral / written communications skills and executive presence.
  • Agility: Experience delivering high-impact results in fast-paced, matrixed organizations with shifting priorities and complex stakeholder networks. 


Additional Skills:

  • 10+ years professional experience in Talent Management / Human Resources in a large global organization.
  • Advanced degree in HR-related discipline (e.g., Industrial-Organizational Psychology) preferred. 
  •  Management consulting experience preferred. 
  •  Direct experience as an executive coach.



The salary range for applicants for this position is $161,000 to $214,600.
