Role Summary:
The VP, Internal Communications is a senior communications leader responsible for shaping and executing an integrated, enterprise-wide internal communications strategy that informs, engages, and inspires MetLife employees globally. This role will lead a team dedicated to employee communications across businesses and corporate functions, including editorial leadership of the company intranet and other internal channels, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities, business goals and cultural values. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, bringing a demonstrated track record of developing and executing holistic internal communication strategies across complex global organizations with measurable outcomes, building and scaling a high-performing team, managing corporate channels, and serving as a trusted advisor to senior executives. They will be responsible for shaping MetLife’s internal narrative, fostering strong connections across business units and ensuring employees are informed, engaged, and aligned during moments of opportunity and change. They will partner across functions to deliver clear, consistent, and impactful messaging that strengthens engagement and drives business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute an integrated, cohesive, high-impact employee communications strategy that links employees to MetLife’s purpose, reinforces culture, and keeps a distributed, global workforce connected and engaged
- Continuously evaluate and integrate emerging communications technologies—including advanced digital tools and AI‑driven capabilities—to enhance channel effectiveness, improve personalization, and evolve how employees consume and engage with information.
- Reinforce MetLife’s culture through proactive, compelling storytelling that highlights employee impact, customer success, and company milestones
- Collaborate with senior leadership to strategically shape and amplify their leadership voice across key internal platforms, including during sensitive or high-impact situations to maintain employee confidence and alignment.
- Oversee and evolve internal communication channels, including the company intranet and enterprise collaboration platform
- Lead communication strategy for significant organizational changes, ensuring clarity and transparency
- Establish a center of excellence in internal communications, building and nurturing a high-performing team of experts
- Analyze feedback to determine the effectiveness of communications material, recommending and driving changes as appropriate to improve delivery and understanding
- Use data, insights, and feedback to evaluate communications effectiveness, refine strategies, and improve understanding and engagement
Position Requirements:
- 15+ years of experience in corporate and/or employee communications, with at least five years in a senior leadership role, preferably in a global, regulated organization
- Brings a forward‑looking perspective to internal communications, consistently applying modern, innovative, and insight‑driven approaches to elevate employee engagement and organizational impact.
- Proven success in managing global internal communications and leading large teams
- Deep understanding of the communications landscape, including traditional, digital, and social platforms
- Exceptional writing, storytelling, and strategic thinking skills
- Executive presence with experience advising, coaching and preparing senior leaders for high-stakes internal communications
- Experience managing agencies, budgets, and cross-functional teams
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Communications, journalism, or related field preferred
