The Opportunity

MetLife Finance & Risk Management Technology – Controls IT is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer. The ideal candidate will possess strong development and engineering capabilities, communication, collaboration, with hands-on experience in custom software development and data engineering, supporting Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit functions.  Solid understanding of best practices and developer enablement required.  The role is both hands-on and strategic, often guiding teams through architectural decisions, platform modernization, and agile delivery practices.

How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)

  • Partner with product owners to plan, prioritize, and deliver high‑impact business outcomes.
  • Lead the design, development, and testing of custom software components and data processing pipelines, including the creation and maintenance of architectural documentation.
  • Oversee operational support activities and conduct root‑cause analysis for complex systems and workflows.
  • Champion and promote best practices across AI/ML, DevOps, Agile methodologies, and Cloud technologies.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in custom software development (React, Java, and Python) within a cloud-based DevOps environment, including strong familiarity with CI/CD automation.
  • 3+ years of practical experience with most of the following AI/ML technologies and libraries (examples include: PySpark, Pandas, NumPy, LangChain, Hugging Face, LLM/RAG integration, prompt engineering).
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience building and optimizing Data Engineering pipelines using technologies such as Databricks, Hadoop, PySpark, Delta Tables, and/or Airflow.
  • Strong proficiency in database design, software design patterns, performance tuning, and API integration.
  • Hands‑on experience with Agile frameworks and DevOps pipelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong partnerships across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, process‑improvement, and technical‑leadership capabilities.
  • Proven ability to translate strategic business objectives into actionable technical deliverables, including user story creation and backlog management.
  • Experience working in complex global organizations, collaborating effectively across multiple business units and regions.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, Internal Audit, or other GRC-related domains.
  • Experience working with Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform).
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working within Financial Services or a global insurance organization.
Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $103,300 - $154,975. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
