The Opportunity

Senior Director, Infrastructure Debt, Americas & APAC – New York, NY / Whippany, NJ

 

MetLife Investment Management (“MIM”) is hiring a Senior Director to originate, source, and structure investment‑grade and high‑yield infrastructure debt transactions as part of its Infrastructure Debt, Americas & APAC team. The role is focused on driving disciplined growth by sourcing debt investments for separately managed accounts, commingled funds, and structured vehicles in line with client mandates.


MIM’s Infrastructure Debt platform manages approximately $40 billion of AUM and has deployed more than $5 billion annually on average over the past five years across key infrastructure sectors including power & energy, transportation, digital, social, and utilities. The Americas & APAC Infrastructure Debt team focuses on transactions across the United States, Latin America, and the Asia‑Pacific region.


The team sits within MIM’s Private Fixed Income platform, a diversified ~$143 billion franchise encompassing infrastructure debt, corporate credit, asset‑based finance, single‑family rentals, and residential whole loans, supported by more than 100 years of private debt origination experience.


The Senior Director will join a global infrastructure debt team of approximately 20 investment professionals based in New Jersey/New York, London, and Santiago, Chile. The position is based in New York, NY or Whippany, NJ and reports to the Head of Infrastructure Debt, Americas & APAC.


MIM is the institutional asset management business of MetLife, Inc., providing public and private fixed income and real estate investment solutions to institutional investors globally. As of December 31, 2025, MIM managed $742 billion in total assets.


Key Responsibilities

Origination, Structuring & Execution

  • Source proprietary and club infrastructure debt opportunities through senior-level relationships with sponsors, borrowers, agents, advisors, and investment banks.
  • Collaborate with senior Infrastructure Debt team members to build out, develop, and execute origination strategy across the Americas & AsiaPac region, aligned with client mandates, portfolio construction objectives, and risk appetite.
  • Lead screening, underwriting, structuring, and negotiation of investment-grade and high-yield infrastructure and project finance debt transactions.
  • Serve as a senior decision-maker providing clear investment recommendations supported by robust diligence and risk analysis.
  • Oversee preparation and quality of investment committee memoranda, approvals, and client-facing investment materials.
  • Direct transaction execution from mandate through closing, coordinating internal stakeholders and external counsel.


Portfolio Management & Risk Oversight

 

  • Maintain senior oversight of portfolio investments originated.
  • Lead strategy and negotiations related to amendments, waivers, restructurings, and other credit events with issuers.
  • Participate in issuer and sponsor credit update meetings.
  • Oversee and ensure ongoing monitoring of portfolio investments (including annual reviews), including credit performance, covenant compliance, and market developments.
  • Partner with Client Portfolio Management to align originations with client portfolios and respond to client inquiries and reporting needs.

 

Leadership, Team Development & Platform Growth

 

  • Lead, and mentor a high-performing origination and underwriting team; provide coaching, performance feedback, and career development support.
  • Foster a strong risk culture and disciplined underwriting approach across the team.
  • Contribute to broader Private Fixed Income and MIM initiatives, including product development, cross-platform collaboration, and process improvement.
  • Represent MIM at industry conferences and meetings; support marketing, fundraising, and client relationship efforts.

Required Qualifications

Required:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or CFA strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of infrastructure and/or project finance credit and origination experience, including deep structuring expertise.
  • Experience with investment-grade and high-yield lending, preferably both in bank and bond/note formats.
  • Experience in the power & energy sector.
  • Demonstrated track record of sourcing and executing infrastructure debt investments across the Americas (and ideally the APAC region).
  • Established senior relationships with infrastructure sponsors, agents, advisors, and borrowers.
  • Proven leadership experience managing transaction teams and developing investment professionals.
  • Strong credit judgment, financial analysis skills, and ability to balance risk and return.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present complex investment views clearly.
  • Understanding of and experience with AI platforms to assist and supplement workflow efficiencies.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

 

  • Experience with private placements and bespoke project finance structures.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg and Salesforce or similar tools.
  • Experience supporting institutional clients, separately managed accounts, commingled funds, and CLOs.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.

 

The expected salary range for this position is $187,000 - $204,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
