The Group Benefits area in MetLife is growing, and the team is looking for an energetic and motivated Principal Full Stack Engineer with Modernization skills in cloud technologies who is forward-focused, not afraid of experimentation and a team player. In this role, you will be working on a set of applications that deliver dental claims management, adjudication, and payment, as well as collaborating and interfacing with partners to deliver on enterprise-level strategic initiatives. Your work will make an impact on how MetLife fulfills its promises to the customer, and you will have excellent opportunities to interact and contribute to the group's success.


Key Responsibilities:


Architect, design, develop, implement and maintain Group Insurance applications using cloud technologies including technical leadership of a team of engineers working in an Agile onshore-offshore model. Lead the modernization efforts of the application set, to increase agility to handle ever changing policy and regulatory provisions. Modernize a monolithic JAVA/COBOL/CICS/VSAM/DB2 application into a Java/Microservices/Micro-frontend/Salesforce.com on cloud.


Collaborate with:

  • Enterprise Architecture to ensure adherence to corporate strategy and establishment of guardrails for development teams to operate within.
  • Development team members (including offshore consultants) in designing, developing, and testing the system modification.
  • Mainframe & Cloud Infrastructure Engineering.
  • Partnering applications in understanding, designing, and agreeing to the interface requirements.
  • Product Owners, Product Managers, Application Owners, and Release Train Engineers.
  • Drive Application Changes to enable Test Automation efforts that will support Integration, End to End, and User Acceptance Testing at the overall project or program level.
  • Be innovative and always ready to learn new skills.


Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on application architecture and development experience working with JAVA, Node, JavaScript, UI Frameworks, NoSQL, and RDBMS databases in a cloud environment.
  • Strong experience on DevOps tools.
  • Proven record on architecting and implementing complex programs.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and be able to work in an open, collaborative environment to support both individual and team objectives.
  • Experience working in a multi-site onshore-offshore model with the ability to mentor and guide multiple geographically dispersed Agile development teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Skills: 

  • Experience in workplace benefits business.
  • Willingness to learn Mainframe technology and understand its nuances for modernization.

The expected salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
