The Paralegal is responsible for providing high-level legal and transactional support to our Government and Legal Affairs department’s Investments attorneys and professionals primarily servicing the central/pacific territories of the Real Estate Investments unit. The unit handles a host of complex general corporate and real estate transactions across multiple asset classes, including corporate governance, mortgage loans, equity investments, joint ventures, and related financings; and the role works closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel to ensure efficient execution and ongoing compliance. The role may also support other enterprise units, national/multi-national projects, and Legal Services Team initiatives. Guided by our purpose – always with you building a more confident future – and our New Frontier strategy focused on stronger growth, attractive returns and all-weather performance, this is an exciting opportunity to provide end-to-end paralegal support for commercial real estate transactions in a fast-paced, institutional investment environment. As part of a growing team, you’ll drive efficiency through process improvement, support legal technology initiatives, and contribute to responsible adoption of AI-enabled tools (e.g., workflow automation and process documentation) while applying appropriate analysis, confidentiality, and human judgment.
- Support Corporate Secretary’s Office with quarterly entity reports, entity formation, maintenance, and governance for investment vehicles, including LLCs and partnerships.
- Manage multiple projects independently and under the general supervision of attorneys; meet deadlines and produce quality deliverables.
- Drive scalable process improvements, develop standardization of templates, and contribute to workflow efficiencies across the Real Estate Investments legal function.
- Draft, review, and manage transaction documents such as NDAs, loan documents, digital closing binders, participation certificates, corporate entity documents, digital minute books, and post-closing deliverables as well as maintain trackers, periodic reports, entity libraries, fulfill audit requests, and negotiate routine agreements with supervision.
- Support cross-functional efforts with peer Services Team colleagues, attorneys, IT, and business stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of unit and enterprise goals, including training junior paralegals and providing guidance on best practices.
- 0–3 years of relevant experience (paralegal, legal assistant, or related role).
- Comfort working with technology-assisted workflows, including documenting steps, validating outputs, and following governance and confidentiality requirements when using automation or AI-enabled tools.
- Highly motivated with excellent communication, organizational and project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced, evolving environment, with sound judgment and appropriate escalation.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved institution or equivalent on-the-job experience, and commissioned notary public preferred.
- Professional experience working with generative AI tools to enhance productivity, with awareness of limitations, need for human review, and importance of confidentiality (e.g., ensure outputs are verified and do not unintentionally disclose sensitive information).
- Internship or experience at law firm, in financial services, insurance, and/or regulated industries; knowledge of commercial real estate lending and/or investment structures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Litera, Westlaw, LexisNexis; experience in GEMS, iManage, Intralinks, ProDeal, CTAdvantage is a plus.
