MetLife Investment Management (“MIM”), the institutional asset management business of MetLife, Inc., is hiring an associate to join our U.S.-based Infrastructure Debt team.  MIM’s infrastructure debt team finances project across sectors, including power & energy, transportation, social, digital, and other core infrastructure assets.   The candidate will work as part of the investment team located in MIM’s Whippany, NJ office and provide support in the origination and execution of transactions as well as portfolio management   functions.  Day to day responsibilities include working with senior analysts to review and assess infrastructure financing opportunities as well as interacting with the portfolio management team to address portfolio needs and respond to client inquiries.


The Infrastructure Debt team at MetLife Investment Management (“MIM”) is responsible for investing in project finance and infrastructure private placement assets.   The Americas & AsiaPac team, located in Whippany, NJ, focuses on transactions in the United States, Latin America, and the Asia Pacific region.  The Infrastructure Debt team manages a portfolio of approximately $37 billion (12/31/2024) of project finance and infrastructure debt on behalf of MIM’s affiliated and unaffiliated clients.

 

The Infrastructure Debt team sits within MIM’s Private Capital team which manages $102 billion (12/31/2024) in private corporates, asset-based finance, and infrastructure debt and is an industry leader in private debt with a 100+ year history of originating private debt. The Associate will be an investment professional supporting the Infrastructure Debt team in the origination, execution, and management of infrastructure and project finance debt investment opportunities.  The Associate will also support administrative, marketing, and data projects relate to the Infrastructure Debt team.  The role provides candidates with the opportunity to work and interact with various teams across MIM, including Corporate Private Placements, Client Portfolio Management, Insurance Asset Management, Institutional Client Group, Sales Derivatives, Investment Operations, Legal, and Compliance.


Key Responsibilities: 

Origination & Execution

  • Due Diligence:
    1. Travel or attend virtual roadshows, presentations, issuer & sponsor meetings, and due diligence sessions.
    2. Review offering memorandums, sell-side research, rating agency reports & methodologies, and other materials.
    3. Assess and summarize legal structures supported by internal and external counsel.
    4. Interact with bankers and advisors on deals and potential opportunities.
  • Financial Analysis:
    1. Review financial statements and financial models.
    2. Prepare sensitivity and other financial analysis of transactions.
    3. As necessary, build, review, and update financial models.
  • Execution:
    1. Prepare written materials, including investment summaries and investment committee memos.
    2. Assess pricing and determine relative value of investment opportunities using Bloomberg and other market data.
    3. Recommend internal credit ratings to potential and existing investments.
    4. Participate in Investment Committee presentations.
    5. Work with Client Portfolio Management to syndicate underwritten debt.
    6. Address closing workstreams related to new transactions.
  • Market Analysis:
    1. Support origination efforts of the team, including preparing presentation materials and market analysis of opportunities.
    2. Track deal opportunities using Salesforce.


Portfolio Management

  • Ongoing review of portfolio investments, including attending credit update meetings with issuers and sponsors.
  • Prepare annual reviews of portfolio credits.
  • Provide credit event updates to senior management and clients. 
  • Manage requests for amendments, waivers, and other changes.
  • Respond to client requests related to investments in coordination with Client Portfolio Management team.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: 

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record. 
  • 2-3+ years of credit or investment work experience covering project finance, M&A, or leverage finance.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and proficient with financial modelling.
  • Familiarity with the infrastructure sector.
  • Understanding of fixed income markets.
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure without sacrificing attention to detail.
  • Strong teamwork-driven attitude, but also ability to work well independently.

Preferred:

  • CFA® charterholder
  • Business or accounting degree
  • Experience with private placements
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg and Salesforce
