AVP, Head of Data and Analytics - Sales, Broker, Finance and Small Business Solutions 

Location: Cary, NC; Bridgewater, NJ; NYC 

The Team You Will Join 
The position sits within the newly consolidated Data and Analytics (D&A) organization supporting the U.S. Business of MetLife. U.S. D&A assists all business lines of MetLife’s U.S. business (about 2/3 of MetLife Global by earnings) with everything related to data, analytics and data science, from data infrastructure, data governance, data engineering, data modeling, data analysis to business intelligence, data science and AI.
 
The Opportunity 

MetLife is seeking an experienced AVP within Group Level D&A under U.S. Business D&A Organization, to lead data and analytics teams for Sales, Broker, Finance and Small Business Solutions domains.

Reporting directly to VP of Group Level D&A, this position will oversee all D&A efforts under these domains, and all D&A personnel working on this portfolio. The data and reporting work will cut across all pillars of Group business and data is used across all lines of products, for all critical business functions such as sales, broker, broker compensation, sales reporting, financial reporting, broker reporting, marketing, etc. The role spans all relevant D&A functions, from data infrastructure design, data engineering/modeling/analysis, BI reporting all the way to data science and daily support for all deliverables. The person in this role will be on the extended leadership team for the Group Employer relationships for National, Regional and Small Business Solutions accounts.

Key Responsibilities

·        Executive leadership: Serve as a vital member of the extended Employer leadership team, participating in strategic planning and goal setting. Build strategic partnerships with key business, technology and other leaders. Given the enterprise importance of Sales, Broker & Finance data, the role is also a key Technology leader.

·        Team Development & Cultural Transformation: Lead the cultural shift from traditional technology-focused data team to a business-outcome-driven mindset. Develop training programs for domain knowledge and communication skills. Redesign performance metrics to emphasize business impact and stakeholder satisfaction.

·        Sales, Broker & Finance & Small Business Solutions domains: Act as the D&A liaison to business leadership and stakeholders, for all data products and deliverables related to Sales, Broker, Finance & Small Business Solutions domains. Identify & collaborate with all required stakeholders, to design effective & scalable data platforms for these domains. Review & approval of the design of the data platforms.

·        Team leadership: Effective communication of business vision to D&A and prioritize team deliverables that align with immediate business goals and needs.

·        Initiative delivery: Co-develop and execute the data and analytics roadmap for Sales, Broker and Finance domains, aligned with business objectives and enterprise data strategy.

·        Data Lakes & Data Hubs: Modernization and expansion of current data infrastructure, pipelines and logic. Establish GO-TO data platforms for Sales, Broker & Finance data domains, for all analytical and reporting needs.

·        Salesforce Data: Design, integrate, and manage data architecture and quality within the Salesforce platform to ensure that data-driven initiatives fully support business strategy and operations. Develop scalable and efficient data models and architectures within Salesforce that uphold data quality, integrity, and security. Lead data integration efforts between enterprise systems and Salesforce. Oversee data migration, transformation, engineering, and dashboarding activities, including the development and maintenance of visualizations and data pipelines.

·        Provide reporting and analytics capabilities, including self-service analytics. Develop & deliver a variety of dashboards with built-in self-service capabilities that provide critical KPIs to create high business value. Work with various business stakeholders to understand their data needs and challenges. Collaborate to design effective and scalable Sales/Broker/Finance/Small Business Solutions dashboards.

·        Data platform & infrastructure: Direct the evolution of Sales, Broker & Finance data platforms and solutions for customers, brokers and external data partnerships.

·        Governance and data expertise: Establish governance frameworks for data modeling, metadata, data quality and related regulatory compliance. Create D&A-side data owners and data stewards with expertise in Sales and Broker domain knowledge, who function as data community leaders and facilitators related data domains to tackle highly complex and routine data decisions.

·        Global team and resource management: Fully integrate a global team spanning by balancing U.S. employees, India-based employees (both in multiple locations) and consulting resources. Drive consistent culture and performance standards to maximize effectiveness. Design career development paths for high-potential talent.

·        Proactive D&A leadership: Proactively identify and propose data-driven solutions to business challenges, leading analytics organization beyond traditional service provider role to become strategic innovation partner driving business transformation.

Required Qualifications

·        B.S. degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field, with 15+ years of progressive experience in data analytics leadership.

·        10+ years building and leading teams in Group Benefits, with depth in working with internal and external Broker, Finance and Sales data

·        10+ years of experience with complex production data hub/lakehouse solution

·        10+ years of experience with Salesforce platforms, preferably in data integration, architecture or engineering roles.

·        Expertise in data engineering, data governance, reporting, business intelligence, and Data/ML Ops and related software and procedures. Proficiency in SQL.

·        Expertise in Business Intelligence, including the creation and maintenance of custom and standard reporting packages. Proficiency in some related software packages (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.).

·        Experience with Hadoop and MS Azure is a plus.

·        Proven track record of leading analytics teams and deliver business value via creative data solutions while interacting with many stakeholders in a complex organization.

·        Excellence in stakeholder management and executive communication.

·        Understanding of legacy insurance platforms and modernization initiatives.

·        Knowledge of HIPAA and other relevant consumer data regulations.


Location

This position can be based at our Cary, NC or our corporate headquarters in NYC or in the Bridgewater, NJ office. Currently, we are on hybrid schedule with 3 days per week in the office.

Travel Requirements

10 - 20% required for stakeholder meetings, office location visits and industry conferences.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $180K to $215K. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
