Program Description: MetLife’s Investments Summer Analyst Program offers broad exposure to a global insurance company and investments manager. The program is a 10-week hybrid experience. Summer analysts will develop various technical and soft skills, have the opportunity to network with professionals across the company, and fully immerse themselves in MetLife’s culture. 

Candidates will be able to rank their preferences for placement in the following business units and corresponding locations:

Agricultural Strategies Group (Overland Park, KS & Whippany, NJ): ASG placement will provide an introduction to agricultural finance with a focus on strategy and portfolio management. ASG guides the origination and management functions of MIM Agricultural Finance. An ASG summer analyst will gain hands-on exposure to agricultural mortgage underwriting, portfolio management, risk management, and asset and client management for MIM’s third-party investors. The internship will enhance personal credentials and offer the summer analyst the opportunity to establish relationships with industry professionals.

Specific responsibilities may include the following:

  • Support Agricultural Finance’s management team in driving portfolio performance and platform growth;
  • Leverage Agriculture Finance’s strong working relationships across internal business units (regional offices, Institutional Client Group, Research and Finance departments) to support ASG responsibilities and deliver upon management expectations;
  • Coordination of monthly / quarterly / annual internal and external client reporting packages;
  • Assist in the preparation and communication of portfolio metrics/analysis to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Participate in portfolio surveillance and Investment Committee meetings, and
  • Active engagement across Metlife Investments 2026 Summer Analyst Program projects

Research & Analytics (Whippany, NJ): A placement with Research & Analytics will provide an introduction to institutional agricultural investment management with a focus on risk management, valuations, research & strategy, and portfolio performance analytics. The summer analyst will support our industry-leading agricultural debt platform, while enhancing personal credentials and developing relationships with industry professionals.

Specific responsibilities may include the following:

  • Analytical support for the Research & Analytics teams;
  • Agricultural market research, analysis, and forecasting in support of investment decisions and portfolio strategy; 
  • Develop and utilize existing portfolio analytics to assess exposure;
  • Evaluation of portfolio positioning, including opportunities and risks;
  • Support client and management portfolio reporting;
  • Support internal and external valuation and appraisal review oversight processes;
  • Construction of underwriting tools and benchmarks;
  • Assist in communicating house view of market trends, risks, and outlook via presentations and reports, and
  • Participate in broader MIM 2026 Summer Analyst Program projects

 

Regional Offices (Fresno, CA; Germantown, TN; Overland Park, KS): A regional office placement will provide an introduction to operational aspects of agricultural mortgage lending, including origination, servicing, and portfolio management. The summer analyst may lead or support property and market analyses, assist on the documentation requirements associated with internal investment committee approval, or evaluate specific servicing actions for existing loans. The summer analyst will also gain exposure to agricultural credit underwriting, asset and risk management on a regional level, and work with portfolio managers to support third-party investors. The internship will enhance personal credentials and provide the opportunity to establish relationships with industry professionals. 

 

Specific responsibilities may include the following:

  • Support associates’ efforts to originate new loans and manage an existing mortgage portfolio;
  • Conduct property underwriting, valuation, and market analysis to evaluate new mortgage loan opportunities across a range of property types and geographies;
  • Collaborate with MIM associates, brokers, prospects, existing borrowers, attorneys, and other counterparties in a professional manner to perform due diligence throughout the closing process;
  • Support the preparation of investment memoranda and participate in presentations to investment committee;
  • Assist with loan asset management functions, including financial statement analysis, loan monitoring, borrower requests, property inspections, general loan management, and investor reporting;
  • Perform internal and external ad hoc reporting, pipeline tracking using MetLife’s proprietary mortgage production system, and provide systems database support;
  • Participate in ad-hoc assignments determined by the team’s needs and requirements at that time, and
  • Participate in broader MIM 2026 Summer Analyst Program projects

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree with an expected graduation date of December 2026 to June 2028. Candidates pursuing master's degrees or other advanced degrees are ineligible. 
  • Must possess a strong academic record and interest in agriculture.
  • Strong work ethic, personal and professional integrity, and the ability to adapt to new challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, remaining detail-oriented and client-focused.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • All applicants for this program must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for immigration sponsorship, now or at any point in the future. 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Power BI and Teams, is preferred.
  • Some agricultural experience, including experience in core regional crops (e.g., row crops, dairy, livestock) is a plus.
