The Team You Will Join
The Observability Engineering team is a core part of MetLife’s Global IT Infrastructure Department (AIOps), supporting mission-critical systems and services. As a Lead Observability Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the team’s strategy, mentoring engineers, and driving innovation in observability and AIOps solutions. You’ll collaborate with operations, DevOps, security, automation, and AIOps teams to ensure reliability, performance, and security across MetLife’s technology platforms.
The Opportunity
As Lead Observability Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting, developing, and optimizing advanced monitoring and observability solutions, tightly integrated with AIOps platforms. You will set technical direction, oversee complex projects, and ensure best practices are followed globally. Your leadership will enable real-time insights, rapid incident detection, automated remediation, and compliance with global standards—directly contributing to MetLife’s commitment to secure and reliable services.
You will work on cutting-edge observability and AIOps technologies, including AI/ML-powered anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and intelligent automation. You’ll drive the transformation of traditional IT operations, integrating observability data from diverse sources, automating root cause analysis, and leading proactive incident management. You’ll influence global infrastructure strategy, mentor team members, and make a tangible impact on business outcomes.
How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
- Architect and lead the implementation of observability solutions to enhance IT operations monitoring.
- Set technical standards and best practices for monitoring, incident response, and compliance.
- Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Oversee the configuration and management of observability tools to ensure consistency and compliance with global standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive strategic initiatives in observability and AIOps.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and post-mortem reviews.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
- Extensive experience (5+ years) in IT infrastructure observability, with experience gained from a leadership role to help with potential team growth.
- Deep proficiency in observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Elastic Stack, Prometheus but others will be fine).
- Advanced knowledge of monitoring & observability, logging & distributed tracing, synthetic monitoring, and metrics collection & analysis.
- Strong understanding of DevOps practices and methodologies.
- Experience architecting and scaling observability platforms in large, complex environments.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
