Applying a commercial and contemporary mindset, you'll advocate for what’s possible, overcome challenges, and embrace different perspectives. If you also pride yourself on acting with accountability, transparency, and respect, apply to join our Government & Legal Affairs team today.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Litigation Assistant to join MetLife’s in-house Legal Services Team, primarily supporting the Litigation Unit within Government and Legal Affairs. This role also supports broader Legal Services initiatives and other areas of Government and Legal Affairs. The Senior Litigation Legal Assistant brings experience from a large law firm or corporate environment supporting the full litigation lifecycle through strong organization, process management, and eDiscovery execution. This role helps ensure litigation is efficient, defensible, and well managed, contributing to risk mitigation, operational efficiency, and effective outcomes. Guided by our purpose – always with you building a more confident future – and our New Frontier strategy focused on stronger growth, attractive returns and all-weather performance, this is an exciting opportunity to support litigation matters while helping shape and improve the processes behind them. As part of a growing team, you’ll drive efficiency through process improvement, support eDiscovery & legal technology initiatives, and contribute to responsible adoption of AI-enabled tools (e.g., summarization, workflow automation, and process documentation) while applying appropriate validation, confidentiality, and human judgment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute legal holds across matters, ensuring timely, accurate, and defensible implementation; maintain standardized workflows, tracking, and documentation.
  • Support litigation and eDiscovery activities using available technology (including AI-enabled features where appropriate) in alignment with legal requirements and quality controls.
  • Manage matter organization and case tracking, maintaining accurate deadlines, milestones, and key deliverables.
  • Drive scalable process improvements, documentation, and best practices to support legal technology, automation, and responsible AI adoption (including validation, governance, and confidential-data handling).
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts with attorneys, IT, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of litigation and eDiscovery activities.

Required Qualifications

·       College degree and equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required.

·       5+ years of litigation support or paralegal experience with demonstrated exposure and understanding of the litigation lifecycle and eDiscovery processes and technology (e.g., Relativity, Onit, etc.).

·       Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex litigation matters simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly to legal, technical, and business stakeholders.

·       Comfort working with technology-assisted workflows, including documenting steps, validating outputs, and following governance and confidentiality requirements when using automation or AI-enabled tools.

·       Proven ability to work cross-functionally and build effective partnerships with attorneys, IT, vendors, and internal teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with litigation support/legal technology tools (e.g., Onit, Relativity, Lexis, etc.) and Microsoft Word/Excel; comfort leveraging automation and AI-enabled features to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced, evolving environment, with sound judgment and appropriate escalation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional experience working with generative AI tools to enhance productivity, with awareness of limitations, need for human review, and importance of confidentiality (e.g., ensure outputs are verified and do not unintentionally disclose sensitive information).
  • Paralegal degree from an ABA-approved institution strongly preferred.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.

The expected salary range for this position is $74,500 - $99,300. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
