Role Value Proposition

The Retirement & Income Solutions (“RIS”) business is part of MetLife’s U.S. Business.  RIS delivers business-to-business retirement and benefit funding solutions in specialized financial and insurance markets.  

RIS is a leading provider of stable value products, structured settlements, annuities for employer sponsored plans and life insurance funding products. As part of the RIS Life Products organization, this role works closely with the pricing/actuarial team, sales, separate account operations, client services and legal teams to issue contracts and related documents for new and existing customers.  

This role is the business subject matter expert responsible for project management of contractual documents provided to customers, functions include issuing forms (contracts, amendments, endorsements, private placement offering memorandum, letter of understanding) and managing contract-related projects for the RIS Life Products organization.  

   

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prepare complex, customized contracts, private placement offering memoranda (“PPOM”), and letters of understanding (“LOU”)  for prospective COLI/BOLI and Post Retirement Benefit (“PRB) opportunities in a fast-pace deadline driven environment. 
  • SME business support to RIS Contracts to on contract forms and Explanation of Variability (EOV) 
  • Coordination, issuance and ongoing amendment changes to Letters of Understanding (LOU).
  • SME business support to RIS Contracts team with responses to insurance regulators’ questions and requests on filings.
  • Analyze proposed and enacted state regulations to determine impact to business (ACTS notices).
  • Primary business relationship to the RIS Contracts team to secure timely approvals that address product and compliance needs.
  • Provide technical support in analysis of critical new product ventures. 
  • Prioritize and manage workflow for contract issuance and amendments.
  • Maintain gold copy library of issued contracts and related documents.
  • Create and maintain business procedures.
  • Provide training and technical support to team members and partner organizations.
  • Demonstrate a high level of impact and influence when collaborating with other internal MetLife departments.
  • Research and respond to internal and external customer questions regarding contract features and compliance. 
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects; lead and assist on special initiatives requiring project management skills, as required.
  • Collaborate with team to develop and maintain best practices from an efficiency and governance point of view.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills 

Required:

  • Group and individual variable life, universal life and term life insurance experience with 5+ years of advance level of contract knowledge and technical writing skills for those products or similar
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent business experience.
  • Proficient in MS Suite of Products, including Word, Excel, Adobe and Nitro.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and research skills to handle complex issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to engage constructively with associates of various disciplines and levels 
  • Outcome-focused and deadline-oriented individual with strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to multitask. 
  • Proven results in the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement, including digital/automated business solutions, integrating technology or process improvements. 

Preferred: 

  • Paralegal or similar legal experience.
  • 6-8 years of life insurance contract development, compliance, legal or relevant business experience.
  • Knowledge of or experience with non-qualified plan market, specifically COLI and BOLI
 

The salary range for applicants for this position is 87,900 to 115,000.
