Role Value Proposition:  

Compliance Risk Management (CRM) delivers a compliance risk framework that enables the businesses and functions to comply with applicable internal and external rules and regulations and maintain risk levels within MetLife’s risk appetite.  CRM provides constructive challenge to the businesses and functions, partnering closely with them to implement strong processes and effective controls, as well as to foster and embed a culture of compliance. CRM is part of Global Risk Management (GRM).

 The Compliance Consultant for US Group Benefits will be an individual contributor with an initial focus on oversight of compliance risks in Group Benefit’s property/casualty insurance products including its Legal Plans and Pet insurance product offerings.  This individual will be part of a team that provides compliance coverage to the Group Benefits line of business and will work closely with the MetLife Pet and MetLife Legal Plans business teams to implement and assess risk-based controls and guidelines.  This position will also work closely and collaboratively across Group Benefits to identify compliance risks, implement controls to effectively manage risk, and adapt to new and/or changing laws, rules, or regulations. This role will also independently manage compliance projects and work directly with business management on various compliance matters as well as other duties as prescribed.  This role will report to the VP, Group Benefits Compliance and will serve as a critical member on the Group Benefits Compliance team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop trust-based relationships with Group Benefits business management and associates and serve as trusted partner providing single point of contact for MetLife Legal Plans and MetLife Pet businesses.
  • Actively participate in meetings with key partners to stay informed of new product ideas, business strategies and initiatives, and emerging risks allowing for proactive compliance support resulting from changes in business model, compliance or regulatory environment.  
  • Stay abreast of changes in the regulatory environment and analyze the impact of regulatory changes; ensuring that the businesses teams are educated appropriately and implement changes accordingly.
  • Advise on and provide credible challenge to Group Benefits business teams on their compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and compliance policies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other functions critical to oversight and assessment of the Group Benefits Business, including Global Operations Risk Management, Legal, Operational Risk Management, and Internal Audit. 
  • Work with management to ensure continued improvement in self-identification of issues, and appropriate escalation and monitoring processes to ensure timely and effective remediation to mitigate compliance risk.
  • Work closely with the Group Benefits Business to resolve policy/regulatory breaches and violations and ensure timely and accurate external reporting when required.
  • Conduct risk-based testing and monitoring activities of the control environment to effectively measure compliance risk, identify areas of improvement, and recommend control enhancements 
  • Identify and communicate results of compliance risk assessments, compliance-identified issues, and control concerns to appropriate management within the Group Benefits Business.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience 
  • 6+ years of experience in financial service industry or insurance, with compliance, legal, risk management, operations, and/or internal audit experience 
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously with competing deadline
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to identify, reason and resolve complex issues independently 
  • Must be a dedicated, self-motivated individual with an ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must be a results-oriented, performance-based individual contributor who will produce results based on stated goals and objectives 
  • Proactive, strategic thinking and planning, with ability to contribute as an individual and as a team member
  • High degree of professionalism, sound judgment and effective communications skills

 

Preferred:

  • JD or MBA a plus
  • Knowledge of Property/Casualty insurance products is preferred
  • Financial or Insurance industry professional certifications or designations a plus
  • Knowledge of Company operations, systems, and transactions, or Company financial products and services a plus
Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
