Description and Requirements

This role will manage MetLife Australia’s Corporate taxes, ensuring compliance with all direct and indirect tax obligations.

Process daily, weekly and monthly tasks, including month-end journals and producing reports.

Prepare indirect tax returns/payments at required intervals: PAYG, BAS, FBT, and Stamp Duty

Assist auditors with their requirements during year-end audits.

Manage the assigned reconciliations each month with high quality and on time.

Process improvement on existing accounting processes.

Assist other team members when required.


 Principal Responsibilities 

 

Key Accountabilities 

  • Accurate and timely delivery of tax reporting deliverables.
  • Perform and oversee monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations, ensuring the general ledger is accurately maintained and all interfacing systems are correctly posted. Oversee the consolidation of financial results and ensure accurate reporting to Group Finance.
  • Support the preparation of accurate and comprehensive annual statutory financial statements, as well as regulatory and tax returns, in alignment with the December year-end reporting cycle
  • Oversee Direct (such as Corporate Income Tax) and Indirect (such as Stamp duty, FBT, Payroll, GST) tax matters
  • Manage and maintain an efficient process that enables systematic and organised filing for all documents
  • Support intercompany reconciliations and transfer pricing arrangements.
  • Manage the monthly Stamp duty calculations and lodgements to the various Office of State Revenue.
  • Manage the monthly GST and BAS lodgements.
  • Prepare and review the corporate tax returns for our Australian entities.
  • Manage the quarterly income tax provisions for both USGAAP and AGAAP.
  • Manage the FBT return process.
  • Participate in shaping the tax governance and tax processes.
  • Assist in the Country-by-Country reporting and BEPS Pillar Two processes.
  • Manage the assigned reconciliations each month to a high standard on time and follow up on supporting documents with relevant teams.
  • Representing the Controller Team at the Credit Control Committee meetings.
    Month-end processes, including claims journals, reconciliations, payroll entries, expense allocation, and interface checking.
  • Assist internal and external auditors during the audit process and manage investigation of report recommendations.
  • Review and approve Concur submissions and follow up with cardholders when required.
  • Ad-hoc tasks when required and perform day-to-day tasks when other team members are on leave.
  • Other projects when required.

  

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:

  •      Experience in the insurance industry and corporate tax experience is highly preferable
  •      Qualified or studying for CA/CPA
  •      Reconciliation and Spreadsheet skills (Intermediate to advanced Excel)
  •      Track record in meeting deadlines consistently 
  •      Ability to liaise effectively with other departments and external parties to MetLife
