Job Scope
The Project Manager of IFRS 17 Implementation will lead, coordinate and manage all activities related to the successful implementation of IFRS 17 across the organization. This role is responsible for overseeing project governance, ensuring compliance with IFRS 17 standards, managing cross-functional teams and consultants and delivering the project within scope, timeline and budget. The incumbent will work closely with Finance, Actuarial, IT, Risk, and external consultants to ensure a smooth transition to the new reporting framework.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Governance
- Lead the end‑to‑end implementation of IFRS 17 project in alignment with organizational goals.
- Develop and manage the project plan, timelines, workstreams and deliverables.
- Establish strong project governance, including steering committee updates, risk tracking and issue escalation.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external implementation partners/consultants.
Technical & Functional Oversight
- Ensure all IFRS 17 requirements are clearly understood and implemented across relevant functions.
- Oversee design, testing and deployment of IFRS 17 systems (e.g., actuarial engines, data platforms, sub-ledger, reporting tools).
- Collaborate with finance and actuarial teams on methodology, assumptions and reporting requirements.
- Monitor data quality, integration processes and workflow design to support IFRS 17 calculations.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary liaison between Actuarial, Finance, IT, Risk and external vendors.
- Facilitate workshops, training sessions and communication to ensure successful change management.
- Present progress reports to senior leadership and regulatory bodies as required.
Change Management & Process Integration
- Drive transformation of financial reporting processes in line with IFRS 17.
- Support the design of future‑state reporting processes, controls and documentation.
- Support capability building within Finance and Actuarial teams to ensure sustainable post‑go‑live operations.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure IFRS 17 implementation meets all regulatory and audit requirements.
- Oversee user acceptance testing (UAT), reconciliations and model validation activities.
- Maintain detailed documentation for auditability and regulatory submission.
Educational Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science, Business Administration or related discipline from any reputed university
- Professional certifications such as ACA, CPA, ACCA, CMA, or ASA/FIA will be considered an advantage.
Required Experience
- 8–10 years of experience in financial services, insurance or relevant fields.
- Minimum 5-6 years of project management experience, ideally with IFRS 17 or regulatory transformation projects.
- Strong exposure to actuarial, finance and data/reporting environments.
- Experience working with international consulting firms or large implementation programs will be considered an advantage
Functional Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of IFRS 17 standards, calculations (CSM, RA, fulfilment cashflows) and reporting requirements
- Experience with IFRS 17 systems (e.g: Moody’s AXIS, Prophet, FIS or similar).
- Knowledge of insurance products, actuarial models and financial reporting processes.
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies (PMP/Prince2 certification is a plus).
