VP, US Communications 

Location: Hybrid (minimum of 3 days a week in the office) at 200 Park Ave NYC 

 

Role Summary:

The VP, US Business Communications is a senior communications leader responsible for leading the development and execution of integrated strategic communication initiatives that strengthen MetLife’s brand and reputation with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, driving impactful communications across the US Business. 

 

This role requires a highly strategic and collaborative communicator who can partner and advise leaders, translate complex topics into clear and compelling stories, and develop integrated activation plans that position MetLife voices in the right places, at the right times, with the right messages to drive impact.    

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Originate and drive strategy on messaging, positioning, executive visibility, and issues management. 
  • Set communications priorities that align to business objectives – strategically guiding the development of dedicated external and internal communications strategies and plans. 
  • Develop and execute integrated global communications strategies aligned to business and enterprise goals – considering the opportunity set across paid, earned, shared, and owned channels.  
  • Produce and shape executive messaging platforms and programs – identifying priority themes, venues, and storytelling opportunities that elevate MetLife’s leadership voice within the industry and/or market.  
  • Write and edit a wide range of materials including executive speeches and scripts, talking points, internal communications, media statements, social content, and thought leadership.  
  • Partner across communications, HR, marketing, and lines of business to ensure consistent messaging, alignment, and disciplined execution.  
  • Navigate sensitive and complex communications issues, offering experienced counsel to prepare leaders to communicate with confidence. 
  • Use data, insights, and performance metrics to evaluate communications effectiveness, refine strategies, and demonstrate measurable impact.  

 

Position Requirements:

  • 15+ years of experience in corporate communications, with at least five years in a senior leadership role with a financial services, publicly traded, or highly regulated organization. 
  • Proven expertise in executive communications and strategic messaging, with the ability to simplify complex information. 
  • Strong media relations and crisis/issues management experience.  
  • Exceptional leadership, influencing, and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Executive presence with experience advising, coaching, and preparing senior leaders for high-stakes external and internal communications moments. 
  • Bachelor’s degree ; advanced degree preferred. Communications, journalism, public affairs, or related field preferred.

 

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $220K-$290K. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
