The Team
The position sits within the newly consolidated Data and Analytics (D&A) organization supporting the U.S. Business of MetLife. U.S. D&A assists all business lines of MetLife’s U.S. business (about 2/3 of MetLife Global by earnings) with everything related to data, analytics and data science, from data infrastructure, data governance, data engineering, data modeling, data analysis to business intelligence and data science.
The Role
MetLife is seeking an experienced Head of Data and Analytics for the Sales and other Group level areas within its Group Benefits business. This role leads a large data and analytics team (up to 100 people) and includes responsibility over sales and broker data, underwriting, eligibility, case setup and billing. This involves a variety of data infrastructure.
Reporting directly to Glenn Hofmann, the U.S. Data Officer, this position will oversee all D&A efforts in this area, and all D&A personnel working on this portfolio. The role spans all relevant D&A functions, from data infrastructure design, data engineering/modeling and data analysis and daily support for all deliverables. The person in this role will be on the extended leadership teams for the Group benefits sales areas.
Key Responsibilities
· Executive leadership: Serve as a vital member of the extended leadership teams for the sales leaders, participating in strategic planning and goal setting. Build strategic partnerships with key business, Technology and other leaders.
· Sales data and analytics: Support the national accounts team and the regional accounts teams with data engineering and modeling on various platforms, reporting and analytics. Migrate data from a legacy platform to newer infrastructure.
· Eligibility data: Build a data ecosystem for eligibility data from employers that interacts with existing data hubs and our master data management platform, and provides relevant data and analytics to the marketing, sales, retention and customer service teams.
· Billing data: Support and expand the complex data ecosystem for billing data and extensive billing-related reporting for employers, brokers and the intern finance teams.
· Team Development & Cultural Transformation: Lead the cultural shift from traditional technology-focused data team to a business-outcome-driven mindset. Develop training programs for Group/Employer domain knowledge and communication skills. Redesign performance metrics to emphasize business impact and stakeholder satisfaction.
· Initiative delivery: Co-develop and execute the data and analytics roadmap for group level efforts, aligned with business objectives and enterprise data strategy.
· Employee engagement: Support the business area in creating an industry-leading employee experience with the MetLife benefits plans, with a variety of data and analytics solutions for connecting various benefits, providing transparency, and creating the data infrastructure, reporting and analytics solutions that allows the marketing and product teams to execute various engagement campaigns and efforts.
· Business growth: Support the sales, eligibility, case setup and billing areas to drive growth of the MetLife Group benefits business across all product lines.
· Custom and standard reporting: Maintain and improve a variety of standard and custom reports for all A&H and Legal Plan customers.
· Data infrastructure: Direct the evolution of A&H and Legal Plans data platforms and solutions for claims, customers, policies, employer plans, and external data partnerships.
· Analytics: Ideate, design and execute various analytics solutions that provide meaningful business outcomes, in collaboration with major stakeholders.
· Governance and data expertise: Establish governance frameworks for data modeling, metadata, data quality and related regulatory compliance. Create D&A-side data owners and data stewards who function as data community leaders and facilitators for disability-related data domains to tackle highly complex and routine data decisions.
· Global team and resource management: Fully integrate a global team spanning by balancing U.S. employees, India-based employees (both in multiple locations) and consulting resources. Drive consistent culture and performance standards to maximize effectiveness. Design career development paths for high-potential talent.
· Proactive D&A leadership: Proactively identify and propose data-driven solutions to business challenges, leading analytics organization beyond traditional service provider role to become strategic innovation partner driving business transformation.
Required Qualifications
· Master's degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field. B.S. degree with continuing education could be equivalent.
· 15+ years of progressive experience in data analytics leadership
· 10+ years of group benefits or similar B2B2C financial services experience.
· Demonstrated expertise in marketing data and analytics.
· Experience with employee benefits plans is a plus.
· Demonstrated expertise in design and creation of new data hubs, including data ingestion, engineering, operation, large scale production reporting, APIs and lots of applications and business use cases.
· Expertise in data engineering, data governance and Data/ML Ops and related software and procedures. Proficiency in SQL.
· Expertise in Business Intelligence, including the creation and maintenance of custom and standard reporting packages. Proficiency in some related software packages (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)
· Salesforce expertise.
· Experience with Hadoop and MS Azure is a plus.
· Proven track record of leading analytics teams and delivering business value via creative data solutions while interacting with many stakeholders in a complex organization.
· Excellence in stakeholder management and executive communication
· Understanding of legacy insurance platforms and modernization initiatives
· Knowledge of HIPAA and other relevant consumer data regulations
Location
This position is based at our corporate headquarters in NYC (preferred) or in the Cary, NC office. Currently on hybrid schedule with 3 days per week in office.
Travel Requirements
10 - 20% required for stakeholder meetings, office location visits and industry conferences.
