Job Purpose
The Lead Business Analyst is responsible for leading business analysis across all enterprise systems and technology initiatives in a life insurance company. The role partners with business functions, IT teams, vendors, architects, developers, testers, operations, risk and compliance stakeholders to understand business needs, define clear requirements, improve processes, and ensure technology solutions deliver measurable business value while meeting governance, security, data privacy, risk, regulatory and SDLC standards.
The position covers all major business and technology domains, including but not limited to core policy administration, product, distribution, bancassurance, digital channels, customer servicing, underwriting, claims, finance, operations, data, reporting, integration, workflow, document management, regulatory change and internal productivity systems.
Scope of Role
- Lead end-to-end business analysis for projects, enhancements, regulatory changes, operational improvements, system modernization, integrations and production change initiatives across the enterprise application landscape.
- Act as the senior bridge between business stakeholders and technology delivery teams, ensuring requirements are complete, prioritized, feasible, secure, compliant and aligned with enterprise architecture and business strategy.
- Provide functional leadership for business analysts, vendor analysts and cross-functional delivery teams, promoting consistent standards, quality deliverables and continuous improvement of BA practices.
- Support technology governance by maintaining requirement traceability, decision logs, signoffs, change impacts, testing evidence, release readiness inputs and audit-ready documentation.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Business Analysis Leadership
- Lead discovery, requirements elicitation, process analysis and solution definition across business and technology initiatives of varying size and complexity.
- Elicit, analyze, validate, prioritize and document business requirements, functional requirements, non-functional requirements, user stories, use cases, business rules, data requirements, process flows, acceptance criteria and operational impacts.
- Facilitate workshops, interviews, walkthroughs and decision forums with business users, senior stakeholders, IT teams, vendors, risk, compliance, operations and external partners.
- Perform current-state and target-state analysis, gap analysis, impact assessment, value stream analysis, backlog refinement, requirement decomposition and prioritization.
Solution Delivery and System Ownership
- Translate business needs into clear solution requirements and collaborate with architects, developers, QA, infrastructure, data, security and vendors to ensure accurate design, configuration, development and implementation.
- Support solution design by defining user journeys, screen flows, workflow rules, integration touchpoints, data mappings, reporting needs, controls, exception handling and operational readiness requirements.
- Provide functional leadership across core insurance platforms, digital channels, customer and distributor systems, underwriting and claims platforms, finance and operations systems, data and reporting platforms, integration services, workflow tools and document management systems.
- Maintain requirement traceability from business need through design, build, testing, deployment and post-implementation verification.
Testing, Release and Production Support
- Coordinate with QA and business users to define test scenarios, review test cases, support UAT planning and execution, facilitate defect triage, and validate that delivered solutions meet approved acceptance criteria.
- Support release readiness by confirming requirement completion, testing outcomes, business sign-off, operational readiness, user communication, training needs, cutover impacts and post-go-live validation.
- Lead business analysis for production incidents, service requests and problem management, including impact assessment, root cause support, workaround definition, permanent fix validation and post-implementation review.
Governance, Risk and Compliance
- Ensure business analysis deliverables comply with SDLC, Agile delivery governance, change management, release management, information security, data privacy, regulatory, operational risk and audit requirements.
- Embed security-by-design, privacy-by-design, data quality, access control, auditability and operational control considerations into requirements and solution acceptance criteria.
- Prepare and maintain audit-ready documentation, including requirement documents, user stories, decision records, approval evidence, test support records, traceability matrices and change impact assessments.
People, Vendor and Capability Management
- Coach, mentor and guide business analysts and vendor resources to improve analysis quality, documentation discipline, stakeholder engagement and delivery effectiveness.
- Establish and improve BA standards, templates, methods, quality review practices and knowledge repositories across the IT organization.
- Manage vendor BA deliverables, clarify expectations, review outputs, monitor quality and escalate delivery risks or issues when required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Finance, Insurance or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in business analysis, business systems analysis, product ownership, solution delivery or technology project delivery, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead BA capacity.
- Experience in life insurance, banking, financial services or another regulated industry is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of the life insurance value chain, including product, distribution, policy administration, underwriting, claims, customer service, finance, operations, data, reporting and regulatory processes.
- Practical knowledge of SDLC, Agile, Scrum or hybrid delivery models, with experience in requirement traceability, backlog management, change control, release readiness and production support.
- Experience working with enterprise applications, system integrations, APIs, databases, data flows, reporting tools, document management, workflow platforms, COTS/SaaS solutions and vendor-delivered systems.
- Good understanding of information security, data privacy, operational risk, audit evidence, technology controls, access management, data quality and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, Microsoft Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint or equivalent requirement management, collaboration and documentation tools.
- Professional certification such as CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, Scrum Product Owner, Scrum Master or Agile certification is an advantage.
