This position, Derivatives Associate, will join the settlements team in the Derivatives Middle Office.  The team owns settlement projects, SOX, audit and derivative and collateral cash and security market settlements. The individual will have a high level of derivatives expertise and will work with external and internal stakeholders in a team environment to support MetLife’s derivative businesses as well as contribute to and lead company initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Exhibits and is recognized for a high level of derivatives expertise gained through a series of professional assignments characterized by the assumption of progressively increasing responsibility and ongoing career development. 
  • Understands complex portfolio structures and experience in handling large number of bank accounts.
  • Maintain relationships with external stakeholders – custodians, counterparties and vendors.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams which include trading, valuations, risk management, IT operations, finance, legal for project and to trouble-shoot day to day settlement discrepancies.
  • Coordinate and perform basic to the more complex derivatives assignments or projects.
  • Execute end-to-end derivative and collateral settlement process including confirming amounts with counterparties, entering settlement instructions in collateral and derivative systems, research dispensaries and initiating and releasing wires in the treasury system.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • 6+ years relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of derivative investment products and working with multiple custodians.
  • Good problem-solving, control, project, and collaborative skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Adherence to high standards of business ethics, conduct, and behavior
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to change in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to perform under pressure within a team atmosphere to meet time-sensitive deadlines

Preferred:

  • B.S. Degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Management, or other related field of expertise
  • Treasury experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of CALYPSO, Murex, Aladdin and treasury systems (Kyriba), Excel/VBA.
