Cloud Engineer Job Description

The Team You Will Join  

  

You will be part of the IT Infrastructure department within MetLife in Iberia (Spain and Portugal). The team is responsible for managing and maintaining the company's IT infrastructure. This includes overseeing IT service delivery, infrastructure management, and providing technical support to enhance the overall efficiency and reliability of MetLife's IT systems.  

  

The team works closely with other departments (IT Applications department, Information Security. Operations, and Business) to implement and support IT solutions that align with the company's strategic goals. 

  

The Opportunity  

We are seeking a skilled Cloud and systems engineer with a strong background in automation to join our dynamic team.  

 The Cloud & Systems Engineer role is a key enabler of the evolution of IT operations in Iberia, with a strong focus on automation, cloud-first engineering, and operational resilience. The role contributes to reducing operational friction, improving system reliability, and enabling a more scalable and efficient operating model. 

 Beyond traditional automation, the position evolves towards a platform and operations engineering profile, combining Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and AI‑enabled capabilities to enhance observability and end‑to‑end operational efficiency. 

 

The Cloud and Systems Engineer will primarily focus on cloud solutions with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Azure, while also supporting selected infrastructure-related tasks. The role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and automated cloud environments, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security across both cloud and on‑premise platforms. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience with Azure services and cloud architecture, complemented by solid knowledge of Windows and Linux systems. 

 

Facilitate the integration of intelligent automation features, utilizing AI-driven analytics to enhance system reliability, prevent incidents, and increase operational efficiency. Employ AI-enabled monitoring and observability solutions to identify anomalies, predict potential incidents, and optimize both infrastructure and platform performance. 

This role requires a proactive individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment. 

  

How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)  

  • Design, develop, and implement automation workflows using  Azure Devops and Terraform to streamline IT tasks such as configuration management, application and infrastructure deployment 
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code scripts to automate the provisioning of our infrastructure. 
  • Create, enhance, and maintain existing automation scripts and tools, ensuring they are up-to-date and aligned with industry best practices. 
  • Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and develop solutions that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort. 
  • Maintain documentation of configurations, processes, and procedures. 
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies. 

  

What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)  

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Docker). 
  • Proven experience as Cloud & System Engineerwith a focus on automation and Infrastructure as Code. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. 
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. 
  • Solid understanding of networking, system administration, and security best practices. 
  • Keep production running and current against MetLife standard and currency initiatives: 
  • Systems evolution: define patching strategy and manage currency of our systems 
  • React to security flaws and work with AD/AMS to close them in SLA 
  • Level 3 support of databases and infrastructure apps 
  • Work closely with Application Development and vendors to troubleshoot transverse incidents  

  

What Can Give You an Edge (Additional Skills)  

  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Chef, or Puppet. 
  • Experience with of CI/CD pipelines and related tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI. 
  • Understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture.
