The Opportunity 

The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, securing, and developing new business within the Group income protection and Group life markets.

 

As a Business Development Manager at MetLife UK you would be responsible for developing high level relationships with potential corporate businesses in this defined business sector, identifying viable propositions and delivery of significant deals.

 

You will need to be able to work as part of a high functioning and successful and be able to collaborate effectively with other key stakeholders in the business to ensure the right outcomes for our broker partners and end clients.

 

The position reports into the National Sales Manager and works closely with other business areas to maximise new business opportunities for MetLife and a uniform picture of the company and its product/services is presented to prospective commercial partners and clients.

 

How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)

  • Apply market knowledge to identify and focus activity on contacts which deliver high volume/value to MetLife. 
  • Demonstrate strong consultative selling approach, ensuring the MetLife value proposition is the key driver of the sales process.
  • Build strong relationships within key EBC partners on panel at all levels of their business.
  • Influence EBC/IFA decision-making through demonstrating a full working knowledge of MetLife’s products, services and technology, and a high-level knowledge of the market and competitor products.        
  • Actively promote MetLife products by demonstrating benefit to the Intermediary. 
  • Take ownership and action to achieve your personal business plan as agreed with the National Sales Manager. 
  • Document account activity in line with agreed EBC Account plans.
  • Form strong relationships with internal key stakeholders within the Underwriting, claims, marketing and existing business teams. 
  • Use MetLife’s Sales activity reporting tool to systematically capture, maintain and use IFA information to inform future sales activity.
  • Identify and obtain the support required to deliver agreed targets (resources, training, etc). 
  • To deliver on a range of business key performance indicators (KPIs) and run rates to meet API business targets. 
  • To ensure that the service/product sold is appropriate to the client’s needs. 
  • To achieve best practice in compliance and sales skills against agreed benchmarks. 


What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)

  • Business to business B2B sales experience 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build relationships through trust and delivery.
  • Personable, friendly, self organised, able to work on own initiative.
  • Commercial awareness, an understanding of key business drivers, clients and the market.
  • Professionalism/Quality and an excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to proactively seek feedback and act upon feedback.
  • Strive to continuously improve and be the best.
  • A proven team player with the ability to manage your time and workload whilst dealing with a variety of tasks. 
  • Excellent communication, organizational, planning and delivery skills
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines, the ability to prioritize and deliver under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.  
  • Manage tasks and timings appropriately.
  • An articulate individual, a strong communicator with strong inter-personal skills.
  • An ability to be open and honest with excellent telephone sales and presentation skills.
  • Excellent planning / organisational skills.

 

What Can Give You an Edge (Additional Skills)

  • Current knowledge of competitor offerings.
  • Enhanced business understanding of the financial service/sale/customer service/protection sector through qualifications gained (such as GR1 certificate).  
  • Thorough knowledge of Group Income Protection and Group Life markets 
  • GR1 Qualified
  • Strong track record of performance in a Sales environment
  • Good knowledge of Group Risk market – including established relationships and network with key brokers
