The Team You Will Join 

The Risk function within MetLife helps the organization to identify, aggregate, measure, report and manage risks across the company. The Europe Risk Function is led by the Chief Risk Officer (‘CRO’), with a Central Team (in Dublin), and local teams operating in the branches across Europe. The Central team in Dublin is organized to focus on Solvency support, Risk Analytics, Enterprise Risk Management and Governance, driving consistent risk processes and risk mitigation across both Europe and EMEA and ensuring strong in-country risk presence.

The Opportunity 

The Head of Solvency & Risk Analytics leads a team of three direct reports, reports to the CRO for the Solvency II EU Group and works closely with the EMEA CRO and Heads of Risk in key countries across EMEA. The team focuses on solvency monitoring and risk analytics primarily for the Solvency II EU Group but also for the wider EMEA region as solvency regimes develop.  A key aspect of this role is to lead and develop the EU Group’s Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) framework, to develop and maintain the Recovery Plan for in scope entities, and to manage internal stress-tests and assess financial risks including those arising from climate and broader environmental change. You will work with key stakeholders across Risk Management, Actuarial, Investments, Reinsurance and Finance.  You will be hands on, driving the work of the team and coordinating effectively with other teams.

 

This is a high profile and business focused role in a highly regarded team that is seen as a key enabler of MetLife’s success. How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
  • Develop and monitor solvency and risk analytics for the Solvency II EU Group and across the wider EMEA region as solvency regimes develop
  • Support the SII EU Group CRO in leading the EU Group ORSA process including writing of ORSA reports in particular supporting the subsidiaries in developing and maintaining a consistent ORSA process
  • Develop and maintain Recovery Plan for in scope subsidiaries ensuring accurate and timely reporting of all information required for recovery and resolution purposes, the implementation of measures necessary to achieve the operationalization of recovery and resolution strategies, and for overseeing the internal processes regarding their governance, including the coordination of compliance in those respects.
  • Monitor the dynamics of the financial risk profile and focus executive action, including ALM strategy, reinsurance and capital optimization
  • Develop and maintaining the limit system and risk tolerances for financial risks / risk types, including investment/ALM risk, credit risk, insurance risk, liquidity risk.
  • Review and challenge proposals with material risk and capital implications e.g. dividend payments, product developments, new business deals, M&A transactions
  • Lead the development of the risk policy suite and risk appetite for financial risks
  • Provide comprehensive and timely information on material solvency and financial risks, emerging risks (including environmental and climate change) which enables Executive Management and the Board of key subsidiaries to understand the overall risk profile
  • Liaise with MetLife home office on the further development of stress and scenario testing utilising EC Methodology and Framework
  • Support the team on all new regulatory developments
  • Lead, coach and develop other members of the team
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
  • Qualified actuary with 8+ years financial services experience in a technical risk role and / or actuarial role with Solvency II experience
  • A broad understanding of Life & Pensions products; strong business acumen
  • Track record in analyzing complex problems, driving results and delivering recommendations to high quality standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Presentation skills, including preparation of communication materials for different audiences.
  • Willingness to challenge and influence others at all levels of the organization.
