Role Value Proposition:
We are seeking a seasoned, accomplished, and motivated attorney to join the company’s legal department. Reporting to Versant Health’s General Counsel, the attorney will provide strategic advice on regulatory and transactional matters for Versant Health, a national managed vision care company. The successful attorney will advise on how the company may meet its business needs while complying with applicable Medicare Advantage, Medicaid Managed Care, and state health insurance laws. The attorney will also successfully collaborate with Versant Health’s executive team to develop, drive, and implement initiatives in support of Versant Health’s contracting needs as well as providing practical legal advice on contracting matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice to the company’s leadership team on the legal requirements under government health care programs such as the Medicare Advantage and Medicaid Managed Care programs.
- Research and analyze managed care and state insurance laws. Provide legal advice regarding the licensure requirements for HMOs, PPOs, TPAs, and URs.
- Provide legal advice to Versant Health’s Privacy Officer and others on compliance with privacy and data security laws, including HIPAA.
- Coordinate with the business, government relations, communications, and other cross-functional teams on multi-disciplinary issues.
- Draft and negotiate a variety of customer and provider agreements, including contracts with health plans, employers, and network vision providers.
- Prepare and update contract templates and playbooks that seeks to meet business needs, protects the company, and comply with applicable laws.
- Deliver practical, business-oriented advice with a focus on meeting the Company’s goals in a legally compliant manner.
- Function as a strategic partner on matters of importance to the Company by providing thoughtful, creative, and timely legal advice.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
- Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and bar admission required with a minimum of ten years of relevant legal experience, with at least 2 years of experience practicing health law with a national law firm and preferably with a strong record of in-house success.
- Experience advising managed care companies that participate in Medicare Advantage and Medicaid Managed Care programs.
- Strong research skills and ability to translate complex legal issues into practical and actionable advice and recommendations.
- Ability to manage complex legal matters with minimal oversight while escalating significant issues in a timely fashion.
- Sound judgment, a high degree of professionalism, and a sense of urgency and commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Communicates clearly, concisely, and persuasively with a variety of internal stakeholders (corporate business partners, team members, functional colleagues, etc.), works collaboratively, and builds effective partnerships.
- Proactive and solution-oriented.
Preferred:
- Prior experience advising managed care companies.
- Interest in continuous quality improvement in the delivery of legal services.
