Role Value Proposition:

The purpose of this position is to drive a proactive risk management culture within Retirement and income Solutions (RIS), by advocating for the self-identification of issues and promoting knowledge sharing. The role serves as the central point of contact for RIS’ operational risk ecosystem, ensuring that risks are appropriately documented, rated, and managed through effective controls. By owning and quarterbacking Operational Risk Assessments (NFRAs), the position strategically prioritizes risks and guides the business in their identification and rating, while also reviewing and challenging controls.


This role resides within the Retirement and income Solutions (RIS), which is a critical component of MetLife's broader risk management framework. The RIS division operates at a significant scale, overseeing complex processes and functions that are integral to the company's operations. The role collaborates closely with the business and Risk Management team to ensure a cohesive approach to risk management across the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive proactive risk management culture through advocating self-identification of issues and knowledge sharing.
  • Serve as the central point of contact for RIS’ operational risk ecosystem and partner with the business and Risk Management team to ensure risks are appropriately documented and rated, and that effective controls are in place.
  • Own and quarterback Operational Risk Assessments (referred to at MetLife as Non-Financial Risk Assessments or NFRAs) for RIS, taking a strategic and risk-based approach to prioritization; Guide the business in identifying and rating risks and perform control review and challenge.
  • Develop monitoring plans, quality and performance criteria for complex processes and functions.
  • Draft quality and standard operating procedure documents.
  • Preparation, review and rationalization of metrics and diagnostic reports.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies, including diagnostics, and partner with the Operations team and business to build and implement.
  • Coordinate logistics for Non-financial Risk Committee (NFRC), prepare minutes and action items. Assist in the preparation of VP’s meeting materials.
  • Tracking and reporting of RIS regulatory change management procedures, coordination of meetings and collaboration and engagement of SMEs and functional partners as required. Ensure procedures are applied and updated.
  • Provide assistance on special projects, as required.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: 

  • Critical and analytical thinking, ability to anticipate issues and proactively address.
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills; ability to communicate complex concepts with brevity. Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects / matters concurrently and prioritize as required
  • Ability to review NFRAs and develop targeted testing plans, quality and performance criteria for complex issues, and oversee tactical execution.
  • Strong organizational and governance skills.
  • Compliance mindset; understanding of regulatory processes; strong collaboration and communication.
  • Knowledge of RIS operational systems or ability to quickly develop the same.

The salary range for applicants for this position is 103100 - 137400.
