Level: GG14M

Job Location: New York, NY; Whippany, NJ; Tampa, FL; or other MetLife office.

Setting: Remote with sometime in the office

Reports to: VP, Head of Technical Accounting Group



The Team You Will Join: 

This role reports to the VP – Head of MetLife’s Technical Accounting Group (TAG).  TAG has the corporate-wide responsibility (1) to establish, monitor and provide assurance that the accounting policies of MetLife worldwide are in accordance with applicable authoritative guidance, (2) to partner with business unit personnel across all regions and lines of business to ensure timely and accurate implementation, interpretation and administration of these policies and (3) to influence standard setters to ensure prospective changes to accounting principles fully consider the views of MetLife and the insurance industry.  

 

The Opportunity:

This position would primarily support development of accounting policies and accounting advisory work supporting our investment portfolio in our general account portfolio as well as supporting our third-party asset management business in MetLife Investment Management Group (MIM).

 

This role requires significant knowledge of US GAAP, US Stat and IFRS as they apply to various investment products and funds; project management and experience in financial controls and processes would be an asset.


How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities):

The principal responsibilities of this position include:

  • Manage the research, documentation, and resolution of various technical accounting issues, primarily as they relate to investments held by our general account portfolio and/or managed by MIM under US GAAP, US Stat and IFRS, where applicable
  • Support the quarterly financial reporting processes under both US GAAP, US Stat and IFRS, including the review of various notes to the financial statements and timely resolution of accounting issues that arise during this process.
  • Provide advisory support for the accounting associated with various strategic initiatives, including overseeing the implementation and operationalization of those accounting recommendations.
  • Develop and deliver relevant and timely education sessions to finance and other personnel.
  • Monitor developments under US GAAP, US Stat and IFRS and working with our business partners to assess potential implications to the business and supports external advocacy efforts associated with these proposals.

 

What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications):

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex accounting issues and transactions and drive implementation recommendations.
  • Excellent presentation skills – ability to explain and summarize complex concepts in accurate and practical terms, describe economic impacts, alternative accounting treatments and associated cost / benefits to senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to work across matrix organization to influence resolution of accounting and reporting matters, including strong documentation and review of accounting alternatives and decisions.
  • Broad and deep experience in accounting for investment products, along with a breadth of knowledge across a number of other accounting topics  
  • Professional accounting designation and Undergraduate degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.

The salary range for applicants for this position is The wage range for applicants for this position is $157,800 - $210,400.
