The Team


The position sits within the newly consolidated Data and Analytics (D&A) organization supporting the U.S. Business of MetLife. U.S. D&A assists all business lines of MetLife’s U.S. business (about 2/3 of MetLife Global by earnings) with everything related to data, analytics and data science, from data infrastructure, data governance, data engineering, data modeling, data analysis to business intelligence, data science and AI.


The Role


MetLife is seeking an experienced Technical/Solution RTE to lead our US Shared Services ART. The ideal candidate will understand solutions, challenge the team on solutions, estimate timelines, and maintain team coherence and delivery. Additionally, they will ensure high team engagement and smooth facilitation of agile processes.


Reporting directly to the Head of US Data Platforms, this position will manage an Agile Release Train of 12 teams with about 80 resources supporting activities across Data Platforms, Global Party Management, Enterprise Data Management and other capabilities.


Key Responsibilities


 Delivery:

o   Successful delivery of PI business objectives, Roadmap, and Annual solution roadmap.

o   Facilitate and run successfully all SAFe ADM ceremonies. Lead and facilitate agile ceremonies such as PI Planning, Product Owner Sync, Scrum of Scrums, Inspect and Adapt Workshop, Innovation and Sprint Planning events, along with a continuous exploration process.

o   Lead the tracking and reporting on agile team metrics (CFD, Burndown/up, velocity). Ability to report in Waterfall or Agile.

o   Lead the escalation for impediment removal for the Scrum Lead and Scrum teams by fostering collaboration throughout the ART.

 Coach:

o   Act as the ART level coach, teaching SAFe principles, Lean-Agile practices, and mindsets to Business Owners, System Architects, Product Management, Product Owners, and Scrum Leaders.

o   Helps the team(s) embrace Agile values, adopt and apply Agile principles, and implement Agile practices. Facilitate transparency and a continuous learning mindset.

o   Thought leader in applying new concepts and coaching approaches to the community. Coach teams through the exploration and adoption of agile engineering practice (e.g., test automation, CI/CD, BDD, Agile Architecture, Agile Delivery).

o   Able to adapt coaching style to suit situation, team, and staff level. Comfortable knowing when to coach and/or consult.

o   Encourage collaboration between Product Management and Product Owners to prioritize Features using an economic decision-making framework.

Solution/Technical/Functional:

o   Be actively involved at a technical and solution level to be able to relate to the work and represent the work and team.

o   Support the focus of the ART on delivering value and operational excellence through technical and business practice improvements.

o   Be a big proponent of AI first approach and infusing AI learnings into improvements for the ART.

o   Promote the adoption and maturity of DevOps and Continuous Delivery Pipeline to accelerate the flow of value.


Required Skills:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Project Manager, systems engineer, tester or developer.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a scaled Agile environment (multiple teams supporting single product).
  • 3+ years’ experience as a Release Train Engineer, or ScrumMaster, or product owner.
  • Ability to communicate with technical team members to translate requirements into technical terminology.
  • Ability to present data in an impactful way to drive decisions with stakeholders and executives.
  • Identify roadblocks, evaluate needs, and drive solutions proactively and effectively.
  • Experience/knowledge of key Agile techniques including Kanban, Lean, XP, and Scrum.
  • Project expertise with Agile tools (AzDO, JIRA, TFS, and/or Confluence).

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting multiple scrum/Kanban teams.
  • Previous experience engaging stakeholders, contributors and technical resources to analyze user needs and resource limitations.
  • Strong strategic thinking, systems thinking and analytical skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or 4-year college degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships within all levels of the organization.
  • Scaled Agile certifications (SA, SPC, RTE) Certified Scrum Master.
  • Knowledge in Data & Analytics. 


Location:

This position can be based at our Cary, NC office, our corporate headquarters in NYC or in Bridgewater, NJ office. Currently, we are on hybrid schedule with 3 days per week in the office.


Travel Requirements:

10 - 20% required for stakeholder meetings, office location visits and industry conferences.


The salary range for applicants for this position is $110,000 - $158,400.
