The Software Development Engineer II is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing actuarial technology solutions that support MetLife's actuarial cash flow processing and valuation platforms within the U.S. actuarial organization. Working closely with actuaries, business analysts, and technology teams, this position delivers high-quality software solutions, automation capabilities, and data processing enhancements that improve operational efficiency and support critical financial and regulatory reporting needs. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage modern software engineering practices while partnering directly with business experts to solve complex insurance and actuarial challenges that have a measurable impact across MetLife's enterprise operations.
- Participates in the collection and documentation of user requirements.
- Responsible for the creation and maintenance of DevOps Work Items (features, user stories, tasks, etc.).
- Assists in the creation of architectural specifications, ensuring feasibility, functionality, and integration with existing systems.
- Participates in technical design, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance of processes and applications.
- Responsible for frontend and backend development with an understanding of both.
- Participate in peer reviews of solution designs, related code, and test results.
- Participate in production process monitoring, investigating issues, and resolving production issues.
- Identifies and implements innovative solutions to technical and procedural challenges.
- Utilizes artificial intelligence to expedite analysis, design, development, and testing activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related work experience.
- 3+ years of experience in software development, application support, or data engineering within a corporate technology environment.
- Experience developing or supporting cloud-based data and analytics platforms, including Azure Databricks, Spark, Python, or related cloud-based application technologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with business stakeholders, actuaries, analysts, and technology teams.
- Experience with PowerShell scripting, Power BI, Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines to support automation, reporting, and application delivery processes.
- Knowledge of insurance, actuarial, financial reporting, or in-force administration systems, including large-scale data processing and transformation workflows.
- Experience with cloud modernization initiatives involving Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or related analytics and data engineering platforms.
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
