MetLife is seeking a current law student to participate in its Law Clerk Program.  The law clerk will work with the legal team based out of MetLife’s Investment Management’s headquarters in Whippany, New Jersey.  We anticipate that the Law Clerk Program will follow MetLife’s hybrid office model for 2026, although that may change depending on location and circumstances at that time.  The program will run for ten weeks, starting in late May 2026.  The law clerk is expected to work approximately 35-40 hours per week and will be compensated at a rate of $30 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

The law clerk will support attorneys that practice in the areas of securities investments, real estate investments, and third-party asset management.   Securities investments attorneys advise MetLife Investment Management on a broad array of matters, including investment transactions across public and private asset classes, portfolio management, derivatives, securities lending, workouts and insurance law compliance.  Real estate investments attorneys provide services related to commercial real estate and agricultural investments, including commercial and agricultural loan originations, commercial real estate equity acquisitions and sale transactions, real estate joint ventures, loan enforcement actions, workouts and related regulatory matters.  Third party asset management attorneys provide regulatory and structural support to MetLife Investment Management, advising on the development of new products, marketing of investment products and services and related regulatory matters.  Subject to availability, there may be opportunities for the law clerk to support other aspects of MetLife’s business, including insurance and related practices.
