Position Overview

The End User Technology (EUT) Virtualization Team is part of MetLife’s Enterprise Infrastructure Engineering organization, supporting global end-user virtual computing platforms. This team is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing virtualization solutions that enable secure, scalable, and high-performance virtual desktop environments. Leveraging technologies such as Citrix, VDI, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365, Intune and Ivanti, the team ensures seamless access to applications and desktops for employees worldwide, driving productivity and operational efficiency.

The Opportunity

The Senior Engineer – EUT Virtualization is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-scale virtualization solutions that enable secure and seamless end-user experiences across MetLife’s global operations. This position is critical to ensuring employees have reliable access to virtual desktops and applications, supporting productivity and business continuity worldwide.

You’ll play a key role in shaping MetLife’s virtualization strategy, optimizing performance, and delivering secure solutions that empower thousands of employees.
 
 Success in this role requires deep technical expertise in virtualization platforms and strong problem-solving skills. The Senior Engineer is responsible for architecting and maintaining virtual desktop environments and ensuring compliance with security standards. You’ll collaborate closely with cloud engineering, security, and end-user technology teams in an environment where every contribution is respected, and every perspective is heard.

How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)

  • Participate in end-user computing and workplace technology solutions design, engineering, and optimization to deliver secure, scalable virtualization platforms.
  • Contribute to the overall direction of technology decisions related to software, hardware, and resource allocation for virtualization environments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain virtualization solutions leveraging Citrix, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365, and Microsoft Intune for global end-user computing.
  • Configure and manage enterprise policies including Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Intune compliance policies, and Ivanti for endpoint security and configuration.
  • Integrate and optimize virtualization workloads within Azure networking, ensuring secure connectivity and performance across global environments.
  • Perform capacity planning, forecasting, performance tuning, and troubleshooting for virtual environments hosting virtualized applications and shared desktops.
  • Develop roadmaps aligned with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation in end-user computing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and operate in a DevOps environment focused on agile project delivery.
  • Participate in planning for enterprise desktop systems management software and architecture to ensure scalability and compliance.
  • Work with internal engineering teams, vendors, and external IT groups to design and implement global solutions based on Domestic Reference Architecture, meeting both global and local business requirements.
  • Evaluate and recommend new products and technologies that enhance virtualization capabilities and improve operational efficiency.
  • Lead internal and external resources to pilot and develop solutions, creating business cases for innovative technologies that reduce costs and improve stability.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for complex end-user computing issues, utilizing structured troubleshooting tools and techniques.
  • Drive currency initiatives across all tiers of the virtualization platform to maintain compliance and performance standards.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in system administration, designing and implementing complex IT solutions.
  • Minimum of 5 years working with Citrix and with deep knowledge of Azure Cloud Platforms. 
  • 5+ years of experience working in a Virtualization Engineering and Architecture capacity (managing large scale environments, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting) with Microsoft server and end user operating systems.
  • 5+ years of experience working in an administrative capacity (installation, configuration, and troubleshooting) with end-user virtualization technologies including but not limited to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
  • Expert knowledge on Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktop and Citrix Cloud, Citrix Cloud, Citrix NetScalers and Storefront.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server OS 2016/2019/2022 and Windows11 OS.
  • Strong knowledge of Hypervisor platform like VMware ESX.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Group Policy and user profile management.
  • Ability to build PowerShell or equivalent scripts (including Python). 
  • Knowledge of Active Directory including policies, LDAP, SAML, OAUTH, GPO.
  • Thorough understanding of building, designing, implementing, and managing IT solutions for services and/or applications.
  • Experience working with offshore delivery partners and third-party vendors.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile, DevOps and ITIL.

Preferred Skills:

  • Citrix and Microsoft Azure Solution Architect Certifications.
  • Knowledge of deployment tools like Tanium Deploy
  • Advanced knowledge on Ivanti for Profile management and Personalization.
  • Strong knowledge of monitoring tools like Nexthink, Systrack and Xenoss.
  • Strong knowledge of network, hardware and software, infrastructure and design, topologies, and protocols.
  • Advanced to Expert knowledge of Virtualization and dependent technologies to provide strategic direction beyond immediately supported suite of infrastructure and software.
  • Ability to drive and manage projects to completion.
  • Strong problem solving analytical and documentation skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and preparation of executive PowerPoint presentations.
Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $90,000 - $125,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
