The Team You Will Join
MetLife’s Retirement & Income Solutions (RIS) business delivers innovative retirement and benefit funding solutions. RIS is part of MetLife’s U.S. Business and provides business-to-business retirement and benefit funding solutions in specialized financial and insurance markets. As a Director within the RIS Life Products organization, you will lead a team of subject matter experts responsible for the development, issuance, and governance of complex life insurance contracts and related documents. This role requires strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and deep expertise in life insurance products and regulatory compliance.

The Opportunity
This role is for an experienced life insurance contract professional with demonstrated experience in contract development and negotiations, particularly with group life insurance focused on corporate and bank owned life insurance. The Director will have overall accountability within the RIS Life Products organization for facilitating contract development and issuance for MetLife Specialized Benefit Resources (SBR). This includes leading a team in the contract development for private placement, registered variable, and general account group contracts, including the issuance of Securities regulatory disclosure documents such as private placement offering memorandums and product prospectuses. The individual will also be expected to identify and implement improved processes and controls to enhance the contract framework.
 

In addition, this Director will manage associates accountable for regulatory change management, business audits, non financial risk assessments and implementation of best practices across RIS Life Products for SBR and Post Retirement Benefit “PRB” products.  The role will also have responsibility for the maintenance of policyholder forms.

Success in this role requires strong insurance contract and regulatory knowledge and the ability to work within deadlines. The Director, RIS Life Products Contracts and Compliance will collaborate closely with Sales, Actuarial, Fund Management, Legal, Client Services and RIS Contracts in an environment where every contribution is respected, and every perspective is heard.
How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for drafting and managing contracts, amendments, endorsements, private placement offering memoranda (PPOM), and letters of understanding (LOU) for COLI/BOLI and Post-Retirement Benefit (PRB) products.
  • Oversee project management of contract-related initiatives, ensuring timely and accurate delivery in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Serve as the primary business liaison to the RIS Contracts team, ensuring alignment on product and compliance needs.
    Provide strategic guidance on regulatory developments and their impact on contract forms and business operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in contract processes, including digital transformation and automation initiatives.
  • Maintain governance over the gold copy library of issued contracts and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including pricing/actuarial, sales, operations, legal, and client services to support new product ventures and customer needs.
  • Ensure team adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Foster a culture of knowledge sharing, training, and technical excellence within the team.
  • Manage associates accountable for regulatory change management, business audits, non-financial risk assessments, and implementation of best practices across RIS Life Products for SBR and PRB products.
  • Maintain policyholder forms and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Partner with Sales, Actuarial, RIS Contract Filings, Legal, Client Services, Audit, and Risk Management to support business objectives.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in life insurance contract development, legal, compliance, or related business functions.

  • Deep knowledge of group and individual life insurance products (variable, universal, term).

  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for life insurance contract filings.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and document management tools (e.g., Nitro).

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions and influence at all levels of the organization.

  • In-depth understanding of corporate owned and bank owned life insurance contracts.

  • Strong negotiating skills and experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

 What Can Give You an Edge (Additional Skills)
  • Proven leadership experience managing high-performing teams.

  • Paralegal certification or legal background.
  • Experience with non-qualified plan market, specifically COLI and BOLI
  • Experience leading digital transformation or process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity or experience with private placement life insurance products
 

The salary range for applicants for this position is 126,300 to 168,000.
