Role Value Proposition:

The position sits within the newly consolidated Data and Analytics (D&A) organization supporting the U.S. Business of MetLife. U.S. D&A assists all business lines of MetLife's U.S. business (about 2/3 of MetLife Global by earnings) with everything related to data, analytics and data science, from data infrastructure, data governance, data engineering, data modeling, data analysis to business intelligence, data science, and AI. 

 

MetLife is seeking an experienced Sr. Leader to manage and oversee the modernization of MetLife's central Master Data Management (MDM) system, shaping and executing MetLife and DnA's MDM strategies. The MDM system connects to many source systems for all consumer touchpoints across all MetLife products and enables data for business and technology consumption to drive business goals. 

 

This position will oversee all MDM modernization efforts for all the products and all D&A personnel working on this initiative. The role spans all relevant Data functions, from data infrastructure design and data engineering/MDM solution/modeling/analysis to reporting/dashboards and daily support for all deliverables. This position is crucial for a successful migration and modernization of the MDM solution, ensuring that the organization can leverage the benefits of cloud-based data management.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic leadership: Build strategic partnerships with key business, Technology, and other leaders to create and define MDM modernization strategies and plans. Given the enterprise importance of MDM, the role is also a key Technology leader. 
  • MDM Modernization: Partner with the BAU team and oversee the modernization and expansion of the current MDM infrastructure, pipelines, and logic. 
  • Target State MDM architecture and solution: Responsible for defining, managing, and optimizing Master Data Management modernization delivery and solutions, including ingestion, curation, mastering data, and consumption, ensuring data integrity, quality, and availability across the organization. 
  • Provide technical expertise and partner with the Architecture team in MDM architecture to ensure robust and scalable data solutions. 
  • Develop/implement match/merge rules, survivorship logic, and data quality validations to ensure high data integrity by partnering with the on-prem team, Informatica, and other technology partners. 
  • Collaborate with On-prem MDM team, business and technical teams to define data models, hierarchies, and governance workflows, and enable MDM capabilities. 
  • Integrate MDM with upstream and downstream systems using Ingestion tools, ETL, cloud technologies, External data, APIs, and real-time services. 
  • Data Migration: Migrating data from on-premises systems to cloud-based SaaS platforms and enable new capabilities, ensuring data consistency and integration across the products and LOBs. 
  • Data Validation: Validating the data migration process and ensuring that the data loaded into the SaaS MDM solution is accurate and complete with no business impact. 
  • Team Development & Cultural Transformation: Lead the cultural shift from a traditional technology-focused data team to a business-outcome-driven mindset. 
  • Governance and data expertise: Establish governance frameworks for data modeling, metadata, data lineage, data quality, and related regulatory compliance. 
  • Strong knowledge of the complete ILM life cycle, including documented requirements, data management, integration, storage & modelling, reporting, and analytic tools, and overall solutioning 
  • Global team and resource management: Fully integrate a global team by balancing U.S. employees, India-based employees (both in multiple locations), and consulting resources. Drive consistent culture and performance standards to maximize effectiveness. Design career development paths for high-potential talent. 

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: 

Required: 

  • Master's degree in computer science or a related quantitative field, or a B.S. degree with continuing education could be equivalent. 
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in data and analytics leadership 
  • 8+ years of experience with complex production MDM systems at a retail/consumer products company, including architecting, developing, and implementing match/merge rules, survivorship logic, consumption rules, and data quality validations to ensure high data availability and integrity to drive business values. 
  • 5+ years of investment products experience, or other consumer financial services experience with similar complexity. 
  • Extensive experience in Informatica on-prem and MDM Customer 360, demonstrating a deep understanding of Informatica MDM ecosystems. 
  • Strong understanding of data management tools, processes, principles, practices, and cloud data solutions. 
  • Expertise in data engineering, data governance, and Data management and related software and procedures. Proficiency in SQL. 
  • Proven track record of leading analytics teams and delivering business value via creative data solutions while interacting with many stakeholders in a complex organization. 
  • Excellence in stakeholder management and executive communication 
  • Understanding of legacy insurance platforms and modernization initiatives 

 

Preferred: 

  • Expertise in Business Intelligence, including the creation and maintenance of custom, ad-hoc, and standard reporting packages. Proficiency in some related software packages (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) 
  • Experience with Hadoop. Databricks and MS Azure are a plus.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and other relevant consumer data regulations

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $140,000 to $180,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
