The Team You Will Join 
 

The Performance Data Management team provides data services and solutions that serve as the foundational data and analytics platform within MetLife’s Global Technology Organization, designed to provide comprehensive, real-time insights across operational, performance, and strategic domains. The Performance Data Management team’s service serves as the centralized data warehouse and reporting hub, integrating diverse data sources and enabling advanced analytics, automation and decision support.

 
The Opportunity 

The Associate Database Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing automated data workflows that enhance performance data accessibility and reliability.  This position is essential to advancing Performance and Platform Management’s data-driven strategy by enhancing the accessibility and reliability of strategic data. This role supports the Performance Data Management team’s mission to deliver real-time insights across operational, performance, and strategic domains—empowering smarter decision-making and greater efficiency across the Global Technology Organization. This is an exciting opportunity to design and implement automated data workflows that directly impact how data is accessed and used across the enterprise. You’ll contribute to a centralized data warehouse and reporting hub that integrates diverse data sources and enables advanced analytics, automation, and decision support. This work is foundational to MetLife’s ability to operate efficiently and respond to strategic challenges with agility.  Success in this role requires strong analytic thinking and a passion for data engineering with an ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively across technical and business teams. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and business partners in an environment where every contribution is respected, and every perspective is heard.

How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)

·       Design, develop and maintain scripts to automate data processing

·       Integrate and interact with various APIs, including writing code to consume external APIs and expose data as needed via APIs.

·       Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing scripts and API integrations to ensure optimal performance and reliability

·       Create clear documentation for scripts, integrations, and processes to support maintainability and knowledge sharing with our development and production support team

·       Partner with internal and external clients and provide creative leadership and innovative thinking to translate business needs into workable systems

·       Collaborate across a matrix team of architects, developers, database administrators and production support team members

 

·       Be a leading advocate to a One MetLife culture creating a solid GTO Data Strategy presence by promotion & governance of core foundational principals

What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of how to authenticate, query, and parse data from internal and external APIs.
  • Strong understanding of at least one coding language (Python, Java, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of data architecture principles and advanced data modeling techniques.
  • Proficient in working with diverse database systems and concepts.
  • Experience with ETL tools, encompassing data integration, transformation, and process optimization.
 What Can Give You an Edge (Additional Skills)
  • Agile experience is a plus (Jira, Program Increment Planning, Iterations, ART, Scrum, etc.)
  • Experience with Informatica as an ETL tool.
  • Database experience with Oracle, or SQL Server. 
  • Experience with cloud platforms - such as Azure or AWS. 
  • Experience with PowerBI, Power Automate, PowerApps, or Oracle Apex

The expected salary range for this position is $55,000 - $80,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
