The Team You Will Join

Join our Global Risk Management Group, where you’ll play a key role in safeguarding the company, ensuring we deliver on our commitments to customers and stakeholders, and driving responsible growth. As part of our team, you’ll identify, monitor, and mitigate both financial and non-financial risks across the organization. Leverage your expertise as the second line of defense to advise our business on effective risk management strategies. This means challenging ideas, implementing robust controls, and enforcing guardrails to foster responsible business growth. Join us in advancing MetLife’s legacy of trust through exemplary risk management practices.

The Opportunity

The Consultant, U.S. Operational Risk Management (ORM), supports the implementation and ongoing execution of the Non-Financial Risk Management Framework across U.S. businesses. This role partners with business and functional leadership to proactively identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate operational risks aligned with strategic priorities.

The Consultant plays a key role in providing independent risk insights, strengthening risk governance, and enabling informed decision-making. This role will also contribute to risk assessments for high-impact initiatives and support the advancement of data-driven and technology-enabled risk management capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide risk governance guidance and ensure adherence to the Non-Financial Risk Management Framework, maintaining visibility into risk events, issues, and remediation progress.
  • Monitor risk exposures against defined risk appetite and tolerances, highlighting gaps and recommending actions.
  • Partner with business leaders to deliver risk insights, identify emerging risks (e.g., strategic initiatives, AI, transformations), and influence mitigation strategies.
  • Support development of risk analytics, dashboards, KRIs/KPIs, and reporting to inform decision-making and strengthen risk culture through training and communication.
  • Implement and standardize risk management tools, processes, and assessments, ensuring consistent ORM coverage and integration of emerging technologies.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with 3–5 years of experience in risk management, audit, operations, or related fields
  • Strong knowledge of operational risk frameworks and control environments, ideally within financial services or insurance
  • Proven ability to partner with and influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with risk analytics, reporting tools, and dashboard development
  • Understanding of regulatory expectations in insurance or financial services
  • Exposure to emerging risks (e.g., AI, automation, digital transformation) and relevant professional certifications (e.g., CRMA, FRM, CPA, CIA)

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.

The expected salary range for this position is $85,000 - $99,300. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
