The Team You Will Join

You will join MetLife’s Global Technology and Operations (GTO) team, where what you build directly impacts customers, colleagues, and the business. Within GTO, the Enterprise Data & AI Governance (EDAG) organization sits in the Data & Analytics function and is responsible for driving an enterprise-wide approach to the governance of data and AI. EDAG partners closely with technology, data, and business stakeholders to ensure responsible adoption, consistent usage, and high confidence in data- and AI-driven decision making as MetLife advances its New Frontier strategy. Together, we bring MetLife’s purpose of building a more confident future to life.

The Opportunity:

The Head of Enterprise Data Governance leads MetLife’s enterprise-wide data governance strategy, frameworks, and standards to ensure trusted, compliant, and well-governed data assets across the organization. This highly strategic leadership role drives governance-by-design adoption across enterprise data domains, enabling confident, data- and AI-driven decision-making.

Guided by MetLife’s purpose—always with you, building a more confident future—and the New Frontier strategy, this role leads the ongoing maturity of MetLife’s enterprise data governance program. The position sets direction for enterprise data domains, Critical Data Elements (CDEs), and governance-by-design practices, ensuring alignment with the Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Framework and regulatory expectations. It plays a critical role in advancing regulatory alignment, strengthening risk management, and enabling responsible data and AI adoption across a large, complex organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the enterprise data governance program, including governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating models across the full data lifecycle
  • Drive adoption of governance-by-design practices across enterprise data domains and Critical Data Elements (CDEs)
  • Oversee alignment of data governance practices with Non-Financial Risk (NFR), privacy, information security, data quality, and information lifecycle management requirements
  • Establish standards and oversight for metadata, data lineage, data quality, and critical data consumption
  • Manage stakeholder engagement across business, technology, risk, compliance, and data & analytics teams to ensure consistent governance adoption
  • Develop and track governance maturity metrics, evidence-based reviews, and ongoing compliance monitoring
  • Champion enterprise change management and act as a data governance evangelist across senior leadership forums

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 14+ years of experience leading enterprise-wide data governance, data quality, or data management programs within large, complex organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive enterprise adoption through strong relationship-building and consensus facilitation
  • Proven experience designing and evolving data governance frameworks, policies, and standards at scale
  • Strong ability to communicate data-driven narratives and guide decision-making across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrates strong business acumen by understanding value drivers across the business, including the role of AI – financially, operationally, competitively

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience partnering closely with risk, compliance, privacy, and information security organizations
  • Background supporting regulatory expectations and governance maturity initiatives in a highly regulated environment
  • Change leadership expertise in embedding governance practices into enterprise transformation initiatives

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.

The expected salary range for this position is $190K to $220K. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
