The Team You Will Join
You will join a team of dedicated government affairs/advocacy professionals who work to shape public policy in our global markets that align with MetLife’s purpose and strategic objectives. We are seeking a dynamic, skilled, and self-starting individual to play a critical role in supporting our team. The global government affairs team reports into the Government and Legal Affairs organization and is based in Washington, DC.
The Opportunity
The Government Affairs Analyst is responsible for providing administrative and operational support to the department and professional support to its government affairs professionals. This is a unique entry-level opportunity to develop experience in advocacy engagement by assisting with various advocacy activities such as devising strategy, conducting research, managing communications, organizing events, and maintaining documentation under the guidance of more senior staff. You will interact with other key internal stakeholders across the company and learn about how MetLife contributes to a more confident future as an employer, an investor, and a provider of financial solutions and expertise.
Success in this role requires an incredibly strong work ethic, ability to work independently and deliver high quality work product, be able to manage concurrent deadlines, possess a keen attention to detail, and be an engaged, collaborative, and motived team member. The Government Affairs Analyst is responsible for helping the advocacy team meet its overall goals to support our businesses and functions. You will collaborate closely with the global team in an environment where every contribution is respected, and every perspective is heard.
How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
- Provide clear verbal and written communications
- Assist in the preparation and production of materials for meetings and events with business lines, internal functions, and external groups, including producing impactful PowerPoint slides that may require confidential treatment
- Assist in the preparation of complex briefing materials for executive participation in key meetings
- Support or manage low to medium complexity projects with senior staff supervision
- Cover hearings and meetings as needed and produce reports from notes
- Assist advocacy staff with research and writing projects as needed
- Assist with developing and managing project-related data associated with advocacy activities
- Monitor and produce notes on certain social media activities for legislative and regulatory activity, and relevant stakeholder comments on policy and societal issues.
- Provide administrative support as needed for team members (calendar, travel, coordinate with IT to resolve issues, document management)
- Assist in the general operations of the office
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
- BS/BA degree and 1-3 years of experience
- Possess a self-starter/ownership mindset
- Ability to work independently, anticipate needs, look ahead, plan for contingencies, manage, and prioritize concurrent tasks and follow-ups
- Deliver quality results while operating within MetLife’s values and ethical standards
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficient technology user and adopter of emerging innovations
- Keen design skills for impactful slide presentations
- Excellent ability to search, organize, evaluate, and present information—oral and written—on complex topics
- Ability to recognize opportunities to improve and stream-line processes
- Superb inter-personal skills, demonstrating an ease with interacting professionally – at senior levels - within and across functional teams and with key stakeholders
- Flexibility to move between competing priorities as needed/directed
- Calendar/schedule management
