The Opportunity
This leadership position plays a vital role in the UK Reinsurance business of Retirement Income Solutions (RIS). The RIS business, one of the largest U.S. segments in MetLife, has a wide variety of products, including pension risk transfer products, UK Reinsurance, GIC/Funding agreements, stable value products, structured settlements, Institutional Income Annuities, Retail Annuity Reinsurance and PRB & SBR Products.

  

The successful candidate will report to the VP, Head of UK Reinsurance. The AVP will oversee sales, manage the pipeline, and maintain client relationships for the UK Reinsurance flow business, while also developing new products and leading key strategic reinsurance projects. Additionally, the position supervises operations related to the new product. It offers high visibility with senior leaders across the RIS Leadership Team and other business and corporate departments, providing opportunities to shape management decisions and drive impactful results. Collaboration is frequent with various RIS partners such as Investments, Pricing, Corporate Reinsurance, Operations/Administration, IT, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Actuarial, and Finance. As part of the leadership team, the employee will play a central role in expanding the business and implementation of the key business strategy for RIS.

 

 

How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)

  • Manage the sales, pipeline and client relationship of UK Reinsurance flow business.
  • Lead the team to deliver the mortality underwriting and pricing for UK reinsurance flow business.
  • Lead new product development into adjacent market, including UK funded reinsurance.   
  • Drive key product growth strategies including internal and external reinsurance 
  • Maintain and develop strong external client relationships with various UK Reinsurance cedant and broker partners as it relates to the market and business strategy of the product.
  • Provide guidance to other team members in conducting financial modeling and pricing analysis for the UK funded reinsurance.
  • Manage BAU monthly collateral operations for the existing UK funded re clients.
  • Partner and collaborate with Finance, Investments, Pricing, Valuation, R&D, Risk, and Legal
  • Lead a team of approximately two direct reports



What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related discipline
  • ASA or FSA preferred
  • 10+ years of working experience in insurance and/or reinsurance underwriting and pricing, demonstrating proven business leadership
  • Ability to manage relationships with key business partners
  • Exceptional quantitative and communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively and develop new products and structures 
  • Negotiation skills – ability to negotiate key commercial terms to achieve optimal business outcome
  • Project management skills – ability to lead and manage key strategic cross-functional projects
  • Proven ability to act strategically, make decisions, manage resources, and build partnerships
  • Ability to manage operational workflow and meeting operational timelines


What Can Give You an Edge (Additional Skills)

  • General understanding of institutional asset management and portfolio analysis 
  • Prior experience in asset intensive reinsurance or ALM
  • Understanding of reinsurance strategies and annuity products

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $164,200 to $218,900. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
