Meet a Few of Our Interns
Anika – A Marketing & Supply Chain major from UNC Charlotte, Anika is learning what it takes to succeed in the world of complex deals. From supporting the negotiation of contracts to keeping stakeholders aligned, she’s helping our Global Technology Strategy & Operations team run smoothly.
Luke – A Math & Statistics major from UNC Chapel Hill, Luke brings strong analytical skills to the Data Engineering team. He turns complex data into clear, actionable insights, builds dashboards that sharpen performance visibility, and supports critical file‑transfer processes. His problem‑solving mindset helps improve workflows, strengthen reliability, and boost overall efficiency.
Mei – A Computer Science student from NC State, Mei brings her passion for cybersecurity to life. Working with our Platform Assessments team in Cybersecurity Attack Surface Management, she’s piloting new tools, analyzing data, and collaborating across teams to further strengthen MetLife’s security posture.
Why MetLife? More Than Just an Internship
For all three interns, MetLife stands out not only for its challenging roles but also for its supportive culture. “I was drawn to MetLife because the internship wasn’t a rigid track. I’ve had the opportunity to really explore my passions in technology and have been encouraged to try new things,” says Mei. The chance to work on high-impact projects, connect with leaders, and grow a professional network proves invaluable. Luke adds: “I’ve really enjoyed having so many interactions with team members and leaders. The flexibility is nice, and the Cary Technology campus is beautiful, very collaborative, and full of people eager to help me grow.”
Learning by Doing (and Connecting)
No two days look exactly the same. “My days are packed with strategy meetings, stand-ups, and tackling tasks,” Anika shares. “I’m working on three different deals right now, which have taught me valuable project management skills. I’m learning new transferrable skills every single day.” For Luke, mornings start with reviewing his projects for the day and a quick coffee run with his fellow interns. “I always look forward to our daily team stand-up to kick things off. I then jump straight into projects, sometimes stopping for a lunch break with friends or an intern program event.” All agree: the people make the experience. “Everyone is open to mentorship here; it really blew me away. You can reach out to anyone, senior leaders included,” Luke says.
Hands-On Projects That Matter
At MetLife, our interns work on projects that impact the business. For Anika, that means creating financial models and meeting with leaders across the organization. “Being an intern here means having the opportunity to influence and create meaningful change. That sense of purpose makes this experience incredibly rewarding.” Mei’s work is essential to MetLife’s cybersecurity team. She pilots new security tools, collaborates with teams in app and cloud security, and leads data analysis for executive summaries. “The work I do permeates across the entire company. It’s amazing to know the impact of my work every day.”
Building Technical and Professional Skills
Whether it’s learning data visualization tools, analyzing file transfer protocols, or getting hands-on with cybersecurity platforms, each tech intern at MetLife sharpens their technical edge during their time with us. We also prioritize professional growth. “The top skill I’ve really grown since I started my internship is communication,” Luke notes. “Learning to be clear, concise, and flexible is something I’ll use in any job.” Mei agrees: “Problem-solving and staying curious is also key, and I’ve really grown in those two areas. In tech, there’s always something new to learn, and MetLife encourages the mindset of being agile and leading with a growth mindset.”
If you’re searching for a place where you’ll be challenged, supported, and empowered to make a difference, MetLife’s internship program could be your launchpad. “MetLife’s tech internship openings across various teams are an incredible opportunity. You aren’t just an intern here. You really feel like an integrated part of the team, and will see your work drive meaningful change,” Anika says.
