Position Overview

The Chief Accountant will lead the accounting function, ensuring compliance with international and local standards, and supporting the financial integrity of MetLife Lebanon. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of insurance finance operations. The Chief Accountant will report directly to the Financial Controller.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and month-end/year-end closing.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, US GAAP, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and reports for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Manage, coordinate and liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies to facilitate audits and ensure statutory compliance.
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data, preparing detailed financial analyses and variance reports to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Manage tax planning and compliance, ensuring timely and accurate filing of all required tax returns.
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the accounting department to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Provide strategic financial insights to senior management and support decision-making.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

    Main Requirements

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
      • Previous experience in insurance finance is preferred.
      • Background in a Big 4 accounting firm is a strong plus.
    • Technical Skills:
      • Strong knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP, and local accounting regulations.
      • Expertise in accounting principles, standards, and financial reporting.
    • Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and drive results.
    • Other Skills: Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills; proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office.
