Position Summary

 

The position owns MetLife's reinsurance closing reporting for Reinsurance business by taking care of end-to-end requirement of the process.  Represent process with various teams (controllers, auditors, FMG leads) and works with them for successful completion of monthly and quarterly deliverables. This includes Reinsurance Administration, analysis of income statement and balance sheet on a GAAP and STAT basis at the following levels: treaty, legal entity and line of business.  Develop and maintain various reports used by Reinsurance stakeholders.  Review and approve Journal entries and wire based on this thorough analysis and inputs received from other departments to ensure high quality results are produced. Spearheading various Enterprise Level Projects for Reinsurance. Collaborating with Leadership across LOBs including Controllership, Treasury, Investment.

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

·       Primarily responsible for the reinsurance treaties or fulfilment of contractual obligation. 

  • The review of monthly, quarterly settlement statement and approve journal entries and wire based on his review.
  • Quarterly analytics of significant treaties (GAAP and STAT income statements and balance sheet) to ensure controllers have reason for movement in balances. 
  • Interaction and coordination with the lines of business, administrative areas, and actuaries to ensure reinsurance deliverables are timely and accurate. 
  • Addressing controllers and auditors’ queries including reinsurer queries.
  • Ensure the accuracy of CUBUS and GRDR reports maintained by the team. 
  • Ensure the appropriate documentation is prepared to support SOX review, outside auditors, and internal auditors and ensure ad hoc requests are completed as they arise.  
  • Process improvements, ongoing initiatives and projects to streamline team procedures and task deliverables.

·       Lead various reinsurance or corporate initiatives as needed to improve overall performance and productivity

  • Work with FMG leads and own the project sponsored at FLT and CFO level.
  • Ensure the appropriate documentation is prepared to support SOX review, outside auditors, and internal auditors and ensure ad hoc request are completed as they arise.  
  • Ensuring compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and audit protocols. This includes coordinating internal, external, and reinsurer audits and maintaining documentation for regulatory filings.
  • Responsible for defining, documenting, and continuously improving settlement models, bordereaux execution, and reconciliation processes. This includes managing system readiness and process documentation.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Actuarial, Accounting, and Treaty Negotiation teams to ensure consistency in financial reporting, contract execution, and operational delivery.
  • Expected to lead and mentor teams, ensure quality assurance in deliverables, and support succession planning and capability building within the reinsurance function

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

 

Education

·       CA, preferably in finance or accounting and experience of 10-12 years in industry of same domain.  

·       Bachelor’s degree, MBA Finance/ M.com/CA Inter with at least 12-15 years of experience.

 

Experience

·       Overall experience of 5-7 years in a similar industry and related profile is required

·       Experience in Accounting, Treaty administration, knowledge of GAAP/STAT accounts and closing and reporting related activities.

·       Should possess experience in handling end-to-end financial closing activities ranging from booking of accruals, processing payments, investigating, resolving and reconciling outstanding balances and items.

 

Knowledge and skills (general and technical)

·       Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  

·       Ability to modify and develop procedures and policies to meet needs/requirements of the analysis required.

·       Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines 

·       Experienced user of financial reporting tools including HFM, HFM SmartView, OBIEE, Cubus/Essbase and Peoplesoft

·       Strong leadership skills including ability and willingness to provide honest feedback

·       Strong knowledge of STAT and GAAP accounting & reporting

 

 

Other Requirements (licenses, certifications, specialized training – if required)

·       B.com (H), preferably CA/CPA

·       10 or more yrs. experience in financial accounting and reporting, with at least 2 years of leading people or projects.
