Job Description


We are looking for a Data Governance Team Lead with a track record of supporting enterprise data management policies/procedures, tools and integration projects. To be successful in this role, the candidate would require a balance of product-centric technical expertise, and a deep knowledge of DG practices, which includes but not limited to metadata management, metamodeling, lineage documentation, data stewardship, and technical DQ processes.

 

The mission of the Data Governance Team is to implement an enterprise-wide model for the governance of data at MetLife to ensure consistency of usage and a high level of confidence in data-driven analytics and decision-making capabilities. 

 

Success in this role requires strong leadership, communication skills, and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on interaction with senior business and IT partners, program stakeholders, and technical staff. This role will collaborate closely with stakeholders across business lines, corporate functions, and partners in InfoSec, Risk, Privacy and more to ensure tight connections across our globally federated teams.

 

The Data Governance Team Lead will manage team performance, foster career development, and oversee resource allocation, act as a key liaison between technical and business stakeholders. Ultimately, you are responsible for building a high-performing team that transforms data into a trusted, secure, and accessible corporate asset through effective change management and cross-functional influence.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop standards, tools, training and oversight to enable trusted to enable trusted well managed and ethical data
  • Apply policies and standards to business needs, ensuring regulatory alignment
  • Collect and manage metadata, business glossaries, and data lineage in governance platforms (e.g., Collibra)
  • Support identification and management of Critical Data Elements (CDEs)
  • Contribute to resolving data governance issues
  • Create and maintain data governance artefacts  
  • Design & Monitor data governance metrics ensuring SLAs are achieved 
  • Solve complex business problems using data and advanced technologies
  • Independently lead design, solutioning & estimations
  • Provide people leadership: coach, develop and engage talent
  • Collaborate with multiple partners from Business, Technology, Operations and D&A capabilities (Data Management, Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Modeling, Data Architecture, Data science, DevOps, BI & insights) 
  • Coach and develop team members, setting clear performance expectations and promoting a supportive environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required



Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or equivalent educational qualification 
  • 5+ years’ experience in enterprise-wide implementation of Data Governance, Data Quality or Data Management programs.
  • Excellent communication skills: Demonstrated ability to explain complex data governance and quality content to both technical and non-technical audiences.  
  • Experience as SME consulted for guidance on Data Governance and Data Quality practices and tooling.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing support for Data Governance processes in either financial or insurance company setting.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence, effectively driving collaboration and alignment across teams.
  • Strong technical program management skills. Experience working enterprise complex large scale, multi-team, programs.
  • Experience with Collibra, Ataccama, and Data Management, Data Quality, Data Lineage tools.
  • Solid leadership and people management experience

 

Preferable:

  • Certified in prominent data governance framework.
  • Good knowledge of Azure and popular Cloud Data Platforms.

 

Language:

  • Japanese: Advanced 
  • English: Intermediate
