Role Value Proposition:

MetLife’s group business has a very complex IT eco-system with business processes and functions enabled through a complex web of applications. These applications interact with each other using a plethora of interfacing components.  These components have been built, enhanced and extended over a period of time to cater to changing business requirements. To alleviate this complex nature of data exchange MetLife has embarked on an initiative to streamline the interfaces.  When implemented, the streamlined interfaces will simplify the integration environment, speed up project delivery, and lower project costs.  In addition to system simplification MetLife is also embarking on new growth areas which require external facing API’s.  This position will be responsible for driving the technical solution across simplification projects, external API’s and ensure the service integration team is at the forefront of integration best practices and technologies.

 

MetLife is seeking Sr. Full Stack Software Engineer to join our growing team in Cary, North Carolina. Our teams are building and enhancing software in support of MetLife’s leading U.S. based Insurance business. The Sr. Full Stack Software Engineer is responsible for software development activities on one or more projects of moderate to high complexity.  In this role you will be responsible for the successful completion of technical deliverables (including detailed technical design, code development), software development, unit testing process and ensuring quality standards are met by both onshore and offshore teams. The Sr. Full Stack Software Engineer participates in the technical design, development, and implementation of application systems, and may have customer interaction. In this position you will have the opportunity to put your experience and education to work in an energetic and highly collaborative environment where diverse thought and experiences are valued.  You will serve as mentor for more junior team members helping them learn and grow.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary point of contact for all technical decisions and deliverables on an integration project
  • Ensure all tasks and milestones associated with technical design, development and unit testing are completed according to project management guidelines.
  • Hands on development activities are aligned with scope, schedule, priority and business objectives
  • Review functional specifications, create detailed technical design and technical specifications, and oversee code development and unit and performance testing activities
  • Coordinate all operational/infrastructure readiness requirements (e.g., operations engineering, performance, risk management)
  • Interface with system designers to design, code, test, and implement integrations
  • Perform defect analysis and prioritize defects and deployments. 
  • Prepare operating procedures documentation and participate in knowledge transfer to Operations.
  • Attending project joint application design (JAD) sessions to support estimating solutions for projects and review and provide feedback on requirements. 
  • Engaging enterprise architecture about design decisions and defining integration architecture standards and guidelines.
  • Prioritizing defects during releases and signing off on test plans, functional testing, and performance testing. 

 

This position is accountable for:

  • Driving technical expertise for the enterprise in the API design and develop integration domain reviewing and approving business requirements. 
  • Defining the microservices application architecture, design for each project 
  • Overseeing use cases and approving technical design documents, schema/swagger definitions, code reviews
  • Hands on development of APIs on spring boot on Azure cloud 

 

This position contributes to:

  • Release planning, functional and Non-functional requirements. 
  • Development and test support, Performance Testing support and service tuning 
  • Implementation and Back-out and deployment plan approval 
  • Integration Roadmap planning 
  • Staff performance feedback 
  • Status reporting, Issue escalation 
  • Resource planning, internal and external customer interaction

Essential Business Experience and Technical Experience:

 

Required Experience:

  • Master’s/bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or related field or substituted relevant experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in Software Development and strong technical experience with designing & building enterprise-scale applications.
  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on coding skills in Java, JSP, Spring Framework, Spring boot API REST Micro services on open API spec is mandatory. Strong knowledge of Integration 
  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on development and deployment experience on Azure cloud, AKS, Azure Synapse, ADLS, Azure ADF, Azure, Azure Data Factory, Azure event hub and APIM.
  • 2+ years of experience with CI/CD tools and concepts using YAML. (e.g., Azure Pipelines).
  • Experience with Helm, Terraform, Azure Kubernetes, OpenShift or similar Cloud experience.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience with a fortune 500 company or major consulting firm 
  • Experience with Helm, Terraform, Azure Kubernetes, OpenShift or similar Cloud experience.
  • Experience multi-system architecture and on/offshore development model.
  • Experience Micro services design/development using docker, Kubernetes on cloud, MQ/Kafka Knowledge optional.
